Job Title: Senior Analyst, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting (FRTA)

Reports to: Manager, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting

Location: Goleta, CA - office hybrid/remote hybrid

The Role

The Senior Analyst, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting (FRTA) is a strategic partner that will support US GAAP, IFRS or local GAAP, and SEC research, implementation, and compliance efforts for the Global Accounting Services (GAS) department. This role is part of a team of five (5), reports to the Manager, FRTA, and is a key partner to the other Senior Analyst, FRTA. This role leads technical accounting research, memorandum preparation, and implementation, for existing and new regulations and accounting standards; is a key preparer of the quarterly SEC reports on Form 10-K and 10-Q; and supports financial reporting process design, optimization, and automation. This role is a key collaborator with global cross-functional partners.

Your Impact

The primary functions of this role, include but are not limited to:

Technical Accounting

  • Track, research, and prepare technical accounting and reporting analysis of new/revised accounting standards under SEC, FASB (US GAAP), IASB (IFRS or local GAAP) regulations, as well as for new transactions or contracts.

  • Maintain, update, and continue developing the Company's global accounting policy manual, including drafting updates for new regulations and accounting pronouncements or changes in global accounting policy elections.

  • Monitor best practices for the Company's SEC filings by reviewing public financial statement filings of peers and others, including comment letters.

  • Provide support for ad-hoc technical inquiries in functional accounting areas such as segment reporting, leases, revenue recognition, stock compensation, hedge accounting, contingencies, and certain long-lived asset impairment reviews.

  • Determine impact of new/revised accounting standards, statutory reporting requirements (20+ subsidiaries), transactions, or contracts on the Company, support disseminating key takeaways, assist with implementation, and draft disclosures, as applicable.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Preparation and administration of global SEC reporting processes, primarily for Forms 10-K/Q and Earnings Release on Form 8-K, along with assisting with review and certain preparation steps for Proxy. Support addressing responses to SEC comment letters.

  • Prepare quarterly key financial statements (including cash flow statement), related footnote disclosures, and quarterly disclosure checklists.

  • Support preparation of Management Discussion & Analysis and alignment with Earnings Release and related script, leveraging industry knowledge and understanding of key performance indicators for our brands, channels, and regions. Investigate unusual transactions and/or business results fluctuations and determine appropriate accounting and disclosure treatment.

  • Assist on drafting new disclosures for significant transactions by performing business strategy, trend, and risk factors analyses related to industry fact patterns, as well as analyzing and reviewing financial and non-financial data.

  • Create and maintain annual financial reporting calendar to inform key collaborators of deadlines and deliverables.

  • Co-project manager for quarterly reporting schedule index for entire Forms 10-K/Q and Earnings Release, including ingestion into Workiva, analyzing and review of submissions from key business partners, and evaluate and prepare related disclosures.

  • Co-lead financial reporting tie out processes, including for the Earnings Release and related script.

  • Support various aspects of external and internal audit requirements, including leading management of responses to auditor request lists and quarterly SOX certifications/samples requests and system organizational controls (SOC).

Other

  • Assist with the continual design, development, and efficiency of financial reporting processes, leveraging reporting tools and systems like Workiva and Hyperion, including coordinating and engaging with other cross-functional departments as necessary for continuous process improvements.

  • Support review of annual benefit plan statements.

  • Support training of cross-functional global business partners on new regulations and financial reporting process needs and system tool functionality (such as Workiva and Hyperion).

  • Relationship build through team gatherings, volunteer events, conferences, or look for other opportunities to establish presence and collaborate effectively with the FRTA team and key global cross-functional partners, including Legal, FP&A, Investor Relations, Corporate Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Internal Audit, business unit accounting leaders, finance leaders and other function leads.

  • May work on ad-hoc projects as it relates to GAS and other finance department needs.

We would love to hear from people with

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field. Master's degree a plus.

  • Active CPA license.

  • Sustainability regulation certification a plus.

  • Minimum of 3-4 years of progressive experience in financial statement preparation, review, and analysis, and technical accounting compliance and research under SEC, US GAAP, IFRS, and SOX regulations.

  • Prefer experience with public accounting firms, and/or complex global public company with $4B+ in annual revenues.

  • Prefer experience with Workiva or similar SEC filing tools (EDGAR, XBRL, etc.)

  • Prefer experience with Hyperion HFM, Dodeca, and related business intelligence tools (or similar) or similar tools. Experience with Oracle GL a plus.

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications.

$123,000-$133,000

The salary range posted reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this role in our Goleta, CA location. Individual pay will be determined by location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
