POSITION SUMMARY:

To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Service and Stewardship goals and objectives. Under the general supervision of the Accounting Supervisor/Corporate Accounting Manager, the Sr. Accounting Analyst provides superior quality, competitive value and outstanding service. The Sr. Accounting Analyst's responsibilities include work that is varied and challenging in character, with responsibility for recommendations and decisions. The Sr. Accounting Analyst will support Health First leadership, across all levels, to communicate financial positions, provide recommendations, analyze complex financial transactions and apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Additionally the Sr. Accounting Analyst will support finance management in leading, mentoring and coaching Finance staff.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Quality/No Harm:

  • Provide financial close leadership including:

  • Identify balance sheet anomalies, identify the correct course of action and consult relevant leadership.

  • Prepare high-risk balance sheet write-ups as assigned.

  • Approve non-standard journal entries within pre-defined approval limits.

  • Prepare and post journal entries with a high degree of complexity.

  • Provide guidance and advice to staff during the close process to ensure the close process is efficient and accurate.

  • Support the leadership by monitoring specific entities/transaction cycles during the close process to verify the close process is completed timely.

  • Support Finance goals, reporting and control requirements which may include:

  • Review sales and use tax.

  • Prepare various tax returns including 990.

  • Review various tax returns including 990.

  • Prepare bank recons for entities with a high difficulty level.

  • Prepare high-risk account reconciliations as assigned.

  • Review account reconciliations.

  • Provide significant support/lead various financial audits.

  • Mentor and coach Finance staff on applicable reporting and control responsibilities.

  • Research applicable accounting and regulatory guidance for specific transactions and Accounting Standard Updates (ASUs).

  • Prepare/review statutory financial statements.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to significant transaction cycles and processes:

  • Treasury Services.

  • Fixed Assets.

  • Lease Accounting.

  • Intercompany Accounting.

  • Debt Compliance.

  • Tax Compliance.

  • Statutory/Regulatory.

  • Internal/Line of Business Reporting.

  • External Reporting.

  • Mentor and coach staff on areas of expertise.

  • Lead, develop and support ad hoc projects as assigned which may include:

  • Surveys.

  • Information requests (business interruption, rating agency data, etc.).

  • Department leader project requests.

  • Process improvement task forces.

  • Other ad hoc requests.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • BS degree in accounting, finance, or related field, from an accredited college or university required.

  • Master degree desired.

  • CPA licensure preferred

  • Five plus accounting analysis experience preferred.

  • Experience in the Healthcare industry preferred.

  • Prior experience and knowledge in the use of software packages such as PeopleSoft Financials, Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Windows.

  • Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of GAAP.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Enthusiasm and high level of job interest.

  • Possess excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Possess computer abilities as well as oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrates the ability to relate well with all customers and peers.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize to maximize quality, value, and service.

  • Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and financial concepts necessary to analyze the financial position of the organization.

  • Remain current on all financial regulations and standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Able to sit and view computer screen for up to three hours at a time.

  • Ability to occasionally stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

  • Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
