Robert Half Finance is looking for a Senior Accountant for a full-time opportunity in the Norfolk, Virginia area. As a Senior Accountant, your duties will include journal entries, month end close, financial statement preparation, GL reconciliations and inventory variance analysis. Major responsibilities

  • Complete monthly accounting close procedures and deliverables that includes journal entries, reconciliations, and reports in the compensation area in compliance with GAAP

  • Commitment to continuously improve the automation of the accounting and reporting process

  • Delegate resources to Ad-hoc projects as necessary

  • Successfully collaborate with business partners to ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies, procedures, controls and provide support on special requests when necessary

  • Engage in various department-wide initiatives

  • Assemble monthly consolidated P L and Balance Sheet flux analysis for management reporting

  • Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail

  • 5+ years of overall general accounting experience, ideally with Big 4 experience

  • Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued

  • Ability to effectively interact, verbally and in writing

  • Strong time management skills preferred

  • Proficiency with corporate performance management (CPM) and business intelligence systems required

  • Vow to meet business deadlines

  • Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges

  • Background working with variance analysis

  • Demonstrated knowledge of month end closings

  • Strong familiarity with financial statement preparation

  • Solid understanding of account analysis

  • Adeptness in journal entries

  • Practical knowledge of trial balance

  • Strong General ledger experience

  • US GAAP experience highly preferred

  • General familiarity with P L Calculation

  • Experience with inventory

  • Account reconciliation experience preferred

  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

  • BA/BS in Accounting, CPA credentials are preferred

  • Skilled with ERP systems

  • High attention to detail

The City of Norfolk's Community Services Board is currently seeking an Accountant I to perform entry-level professional work related to maintaining financial information and preparing financial statements in a health care environment with multiple funding sources and service components. Processes payroll, accounts payable accounts receivable, and general accounting documents. Essential Functions * The departmental hiring rate for this position is $40,805.00 annually* Essential functions include but are not limited to: * Prepares accounts payable and purchasing documents, reviews for accuracy and approval, and posts in accounting system. * Prepares and posts journal entries involving expenditure and revenue items to the general ledger. * Prepares cash receipts and cash journals. * Checks in and verifies deposits. * Assists in the processing of accounts receivable billing * Analyzes financial data and prepares reports. * Delivers deposits to bank and City Hall, picks up checks from City Finance. * Sorts and distributes unit mail. * Maintains financials files. * Other duties as assigned. Education/Experience Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field.
