The Sr Accountant

  • Inventory & COGS is a member of the General Ledger Accounting Team responsible for all aspects of Inventory & COGS. The qualified candidate will be able to work comfortably with many groups including Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Purchasing, Financial Planning & Analysis, etc. to ensure that inventory & COGS are accounted for properly. More than just posting related journal entries, the Sr. Accountant

  • Inventory & COGS will be expected to complete analysis, provide reporting, create, improve & document processes, and work with internal & external auditors. While there will be opportunity to help in other areas of accounting as well, this is a highly specialized role as the Sr. Accountant

  • Inventory & COGS will be the primary point of contact for accounting inventory issues and the accounting representative on inventory related projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the Inventory accounting process

  • Perform physical counts of inventory with the Logistics team

  • Perform detailed reserve analysis for all inventory types

  • Complete COGS Analysis including budget preparation support

  • Perform various analyses including Transfer Pricing Analysis, Discount Analysis, Analysis of Logistics Cost, & Forward-Looking Analysis

  • Help manage inventory levels

  • Act as the inventory systems expert

  • Be the primary point of contact for Global Trend Regions and their questions regarding all inventory types + Intercompany sales process and pricing

  • Provide J-Sox, Internal Audit & External Audit support

  • Create, improve, and document processes as needed

  • Accounting for Enterprise Inventory including month-end close journal entries and account reconciliations


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative abilities

  • Detail oriented with a commitment to quality, dependability & follow through

  • Strong interpersonal skills; good oral/written communication skill

  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite, especially Microsoft Excel

We are currently recruiting for a Sr Accountant - Physical Inventory Accounting located in our Support Center (Global Headquarters) located in Irving, TX. What will you be doing? The Sr. Accountant – Physical Inventory Accounting provides accounting support and expertise to maintain inventory and shrink result accuracy. This position supervises the Analyst – Physical Inventory Accounting and is responsible for ensuring all responsibilities are carried out timely and accurately with the best interests of the stores at the forefront. How will you do it? (40%) Owns review of the physical inventory reconciliation process including: * Works with Analyst and provides input in ensuring distribution of reconciliations among the department provides proper coverage and is reasonable given all other department responsibilities * Verifies stock count set ups are complete and reviewed by Analyst each month * Reconciles inventories * Reviews and posts team member's reconciliations * Validates accuracy of physical inventory postings, comparing expected to actual results * Maintains Retek Tracker to ensure timeliness and completeness of postings * Partners with LP to address trends in shrink results as store counts are finalized and resolve global issues that impact the outcome * Identifies issues impacting several stores, notifies team, adds to Watch List as necessary * Compiles shrink results and go forward reporting (20%) Responsible for the accuracy of perpetual inventory, researching issues, and making recommendations and corrections as needed, in addition to: * Provides guidance and support to Analyst in resolving issues as they come up to ensure the appropriate action is taken * Ensures timely and consistent follow-up on all issues when waiting for a response from business partners * Recognizes, researches, and resolves issues that could have a global impact, alerts management and adds to Watch List for count reconciliations as necessary * Utilizes BAAM to provide detailed and complex analysis for business partners, reviews any analysis provided by the Analyst * Monitors ICD reports for discrepancies, determine necessary action, and resolve timely, verifies the same for Analyst's reports (15%) Partners/communicates proactively and effectively with internal departments to research inventory issues and assist in resolution * Analyst * Store Personnel and Operations * Distribution Center Personnel and Operations * 3rd party counting service * Loss Prevention * IT * Merchandise Accounting * Inventory Management (10%) * Seeks out process improvements and/or controls that increase efficiency and improve accuracy. * Assists in representing the inventory accounting department on cross functional projects and initiatives, including various IT project related tasks such as requirements gathering and UAT.
