Sr. Accountant-Revenue

This position assists management in accurate revenue reporting and deal review which accomplishes customer objectives while yielding desired economics and accounting outcomes.

  • Work closely with Management in reviewing significant sales contracts to reduce contract related issues to ensure proper revenue recognition.

  • Review and document multi-element sales contracts to support compliance with applicable authoritative literature and reduce contract related issues to ensure proper revenue recognition.

  • Generate complex excel based relative sales value allocation and compute applicable revenue and deferred revenue.

  • Prepare and update weekly/monthly/annual schedules, revenue and deferred revenue journal entries, monthly reconciliations and reporting.

  • Analyze and understand various service/product offerings and revenue streams to ensure proper revenue recognition and maintain processes and procedures for accurate and timely revenue recognition.

  • Support special projects as requested including assisting implementation and maintenance of the Revenue Management System.

  • Prepare Ad hoc reporting as required.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance

  • 2-4 years' experience in Software/Technology industry or corporate experience in a similar role with relevant revenue exposure

  • Working knowledge of United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US-GAAP), including ASC 606 Revenue

  • From Contracts with Customers a plus. Strong communication (written and oral) and organizational skills

  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical skills and interest in identifying and fixing problems.

  • Ability to draw conclusions, recommend and implement changes to improve processes to mitigate risk

  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction from management

  • Advanced Excel skills (Pivot tables, V-look-up)

  • Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic fast-paced environment to meet deadlines

  • Ability to effectively use accounting knowledge to collaborate with varying levels of employees and management to drive sound business decisions

Physical Requirements:

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).

  • The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accountant performs a wide variety of accounting duties in connection with month end general ledger closing, preparation of financial statements, journal transactions, revenue cycle, management reports and support documentation. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * General ledger and subsidiary ledger transactions for appropriate revenue and expense transaction coding * Maintain cash sub-journals * Prepare monthly journal entries utilizing sub-journals, cash receipt ledger and other necessary support documents to ensure accuracy and proper audit trails * Maintain chart of accounts within NEWH electronic accounting software (MIP) * Maintain computerized accounting software (upgrades, changes, etc.) * Perform monthly reconciliation of Peoplesoft to MIP accounting systems to ensure accuracy of information * Perform monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts using supporting documentation to ensure accuracy of information * Cash/Bank Books * Post daily activity of banking transactions to the daily cash/checking journal and ensure activity in both the cash journal and cash receipts journal reconcile to each other daily and monthly * Capture and Post to sub-journals MGPO Government Insurance deposits * Prepare monthly journal entry for cash receipts activity * Using patient billing from Dental and Elder Service monthly reports, prepare entry to record monthly revenue for patient charges * Perform monthly reconciliation of bank statements to both the cashbook and the G/L * Receive, proof and record front desk receipts. Accounts Receivable, Grants, Other Billing * Review and ensure state and municipal grants are billed timely * Draw down FQHC grant monthly per value assigned by CFO * Draft monthly journal entry to record grant revenues * Provides support for A/R Bookkeeper * Accounts payable * Reviews staff reimbursement request and proof provided support documentation for accuracy then presents to CFO for payment approval * Reviews monthly corporate charge card transactions and obtain supporting documentation from users (CEO) and prepare for posting by A/P bookkeeper * Review Petty Cash reimbursement submissions, reconcile petty cash and replenish with appropriate coding for A/P processing * Reviews consultant employee invoices, comparing to complete scheduled hours and prepare for posting by A/P bookkeeper * Prepares and issues 990 tax form for any applicable consultant employee * Provide support for A/P bookkeeper * 340B Pharmacy * Review and reconcile pharmacy invoices to contract pharmacy reports for replenishment of inventory * Ensure all invoices for payment to vendors have been submitted to the A/P accounting system in a timely fashion to ensure processing and payment occurs on schedule * Analyze and reconcile vendor benefit invoices to general ledger via monthly spreadsheet analysis * Prepare monthly journal entries for data entry to the general ledger using monthly spreadsheet analysis as support\ * Other * Performs other duties as instructed by the supervisor to maintain daily operations of the department * QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's Degree with concentration in accounting required and three to five years related experience. * Proficiency with computerized accounting, spreadsheet and database software packages * Superior organizational skills SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: * Excellent working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles * Strong attention to detail * Strong analytical skills * Ability to manage multiple financial systems * Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of Peoplesoft accounting software, MIP accounting software * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite ( Word, Excel, Powerpoint) * Must have superior organizational skills * Must have strong professional, interpersonal and communication skills * Must be flexible with regards to the specific demands of the job WORKING CONDITIONS: Ambulatory health care setting Massachusetts General Hospital Boston MA
