Leidos is looking for a Database Administrator to assist in the following tasks:

  • Perform day to day operations and maintenance of SQL Server services

  • Design, implement and test the creation of system runbooks and playbooks to provide instructions to the team about how to handle new and emerging IT incidents related to SQL Server

  • Work with team to design and implement best practices database architectures

  • Research best practices in database architecture, and document findings for team to help guide decision making

  • Maintain Database solutions in both physical and virtual environments


  • Participate in technical projects; log all activities in a ticket system; document and update records of all work done; respond and fulfill inquires via electronic mail in timely fashion; routes and directs inquiries to appropriate groups within the program

  • Provide technical support, execute service requests and answer general how to questions in a IT network environment;

  • Perform other SQL Database related support duties as required.


  • Requires BS degree and 2 - 4 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

  • Experience administering SQL Server databases, and doing routine tasks such as backup/restore, log analysis, monitoring database performance and tuning

  • Very comfortable writing ad-hoc SQL queries

A mid-level SQL Server Database Administrator translates into an Infrastructure Engineer II position at Lowe's. The SQL Server Database Administrator is primarily responsible for translating business requirements and functional specifications into technical requirements that support integrated and sustainable designs for designated infrastructure systems. An individual in this role also develops or modifies infrastructure solutions within designated computing environments and supports systems integration testing (SIT), component integration testing (CIT), and user acceptance testing (UAT). The SQL Server Database Administrator is also responsible for facilitating the implementation and maintenance of assigned enterprise infrastructure systems to ensure successful deployment and operation. This individual must develop and apply an in-depth understanding of company and industry methodologies, policies, standards, and controls in order to participate in all system development lifecycle phases. Essential Responsibilities: This position is responsible for building enterprise database infrastructure, including performing data backups and/or migration along with the design, configuration, and/or integration of relational databases. Some of the unique challenges this position will face include assisting in building databases in a high volume environment operating 24x7, 365 days a year. Datacenter and/or highly distributed server systems. The unique skills required for effective performance in this job include: the design, configuration, and/or integration of SQL Server databases along with certifications of this respective technology. Translates business requirements and functional specifications into technical requirements that support integrated and sustainable designs for designated infrastructure systems with guidance from senior colleagues as appropriate by collaborating with Business Analysts to understand business needs and functional specifications; providing recommendations and input on options, risks, costs, and benefits for infrastructure systems designs; collaborating with architects and software engineers to ensure functional specifications are converted into flexible, scalable, and maintainable designs; writing and reviewing clear technical specifications and documentation; identifying specific interfaces, methods, parameters, procedures, and functions as required to support infrastructure systems Develops or modifies infrastructure solutions within designated computing environments by identifying technical solutions to business problems; facilitating physical architecture design for new initiatives; developing and validating system design prototypes; collaborating with various IT Teams (e.g., database, operations, technical support) throughout system development and implementation; ensuring system designs adhere to company architecture standards; building hardware and software configurations and preparing system components for installation to the infrastructure; developing, validating, and executing hardware and infrastructure software tests to identify system errors and ensure solutions meet functional specifications; working with IT teams to revise infrastructure systems based on test results as appropriate Facilitates the implementation and maintenance of assigned enterprise infrastructure systems to ensure successful deployment and operation by developing and documenting detailed standards (e.g., guidelines, processes, procedures) for the introduction and maintenance of services; preparing distribution packages to enable successful rollout of new or existing systems; executing hardware deployment and installation of software systems/interfaces/applications, patch and life cycle management, backups, and disaster protection; collaborating with IT teams and key business partners to troubleshoot systems as appropriate; providing systems incident support as needed; providing post-implementation support to make system enhancements; providing knowledge, information, and updates on new or upgraded services to stakeholders as appropriate Core Responsibilities: Pursues self-development and effective relationships with others by organizing resources and information; openly sharing information, advice, and expertise with coworkers and customers; influencing others through technical explanations and examples; providing occasional mentoring to team members; seeking performance feedback; adapting to and learning from change, difficulties, and feedback Completes work assignments by applying up-to-date expertise in subject area; leveraging an understanding of policies, data, and resources to support projects or initiatives; collaborating cross-functionally to solve business problems; identifying and monitoring priorities, deadlines, and expectations; communicating progress and information; identifying, recommending, and implementing ways to address improvement opportunities Qualifications Required Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field and 4+ years of experience in an IT support environment with technical experience in distributed technologies and systems development. Additional equivalent work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. * 2+ years experience in enterprise database infrastructure, including performing data backups, migration, and database performance tuning. * 3+ years experience in the design, configuration, and integration of relational databases. Preferred Qualifications: * Master's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field * 2+ years of experience leading technical or project teams with or without direct reports * 1+ years of work experience in an IT role requiring interaction with senior management (i.e., Director level or higher) * 2+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization * 2+ years of experience working with third party IT vendors and/or systems solution providers * 2+ years of IT experience in the retail industry * 2+ years of experience writing technical documentation in an infrastructure development environment * 3+ years experience in the design, configuration, and integration of SQL Server databases. * SQL Server DBA Administrator certification.
