Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, performs a variety of skilled work in maintenance of landscaped grounds, plans and installs new or replacement lawn and landscape sprinkler systems, maintains and repairs existing lawn sprinkler systems; performs general grounds maintenance duties as assigned. • Inspect, clean, adjust sprinkler controls to ensure correct irrigation. • Investigate reported problems with fields to determine if irrigation is proper, troubleshoots problems, repair and/or match sprinkler heads, find and repair hydraulic leaks, replace failed valves and maintain existing lawn and landscape sprinkler systems. • Install new lawn and landscape sprinkler systems, including automatically operated controls, timing devices, valves, sprinkler heads, lines, clock motors, switches, and pump motors. • Convert existing irrigation systems from manual to electric operation, and clocks from hydraulic to electric. • Perform backflow testing; unplug and reroute water and control lines and perform general troubleshooting of system or component malfunctions. This job opportunity is open for public application and is promotional for qualified District applicants.

PLEASE NOTE: Current OVSD classified employees may not hold two permanent job assignments. If you are already a permanent employee for the District and are interested in working more hours you may either submit a transfer request form to the Classified Personnel office or inquire about becoming a substitute in the same or other classifications, in addition to your permanent assignment.

There will be an application screening for the position to verify that the minimum qualifications (education & experience) have been satisfied. We will email you via www.edjoin.org to advise you if you may participate in the written and/or performance exam.

All candidates will be required to provide a photo ID with their signature. Face coverings are highly recommended but not required.

If you pass the written and/or performance exam, you may be scheduled to participate in the Oral/Technical Exam. Candidates must pass each portion of the exam in order to proceed in the recruitment and be placed on the eligibility list.

The eligibility list for this recruitment will be valid for one year.

  • Certificate Copy (Valid County of Orange certificate of competence to test backflow prevention devices.)
  • Proof of HS Graduation (High school diploma, high school equivalent, GED certificate, high school transcripts, college degree, college transcripts are all accepted as proof of HS graduation.)

Comments and Other Information

Employees who work thirty (30) or more regularly assigned hours per week are eligible for health and welfare benefits and will receive a district contribution toward a cafeteria fringe benefit package.
