This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Sports Site Coordinator will assist the Sports Director and Senior Sports Director in overall program development, orientation and training of staff, and supervision of all staff on site. This person is generally on site every day of the programs and works before the program season begins after the close of the last week to wrap things up.

This position will receive a minimum of 3 weeks Paid-Time Off, Holiday Pay, Full-time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life insurance, a Retirement 403(b) pension plan upon eligibility and a Free YMCA Membership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in managing all sports programs and site support staff scheduled at site including practices, clinics, and game-day.

  • Responsible for ensuring facilities have needed equipment and supply inventory before games and practices begin, and that equipment is properly stored at the facility.

  • Must have knowledge of game rules and responsibilities as well as attend sport specific training as required.

  • Assist Sports Director with distributing administrative communication to program participants and program supplies.

  • Participate in volunteer development to include coaches' meetings, training and recruitment.

  • Develop and maintain communication with the YMCA branches, parents, players, and coaches.

  • Enforce all YMCA rules and policies.

  • Maintain regular communication with the Sports Director regarding site needs, parent questions and issues, etc.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and rentals.

  • Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants, spectators, and staff at the facility site.

  • Responsible for cleanliness of facility sites and reporting any maintenance issues.

  • Maintain a courteous, friendly attitude, and be a positive role model.

  • Attend all trainings and meetings relating to the position.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 years of age.

  • Understand the basic principles of sports programs such as basketball, baseball, soccer, football, and volleyball.

  • Must understand the basic concepts of a non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff, and accept a commitment to the

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to monitor department budgets and fiscal resources when necessary.

  • Certifications required within the first week of hire: Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communications, and Defensive Driving.

  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving, skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.

  • A valid driver's license is required as well as the capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed in a fast-paced wellness floor/office environment and requires occasional work in off-site locations.

  • Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary.

  • Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.

  • Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.

  • Ability to sit for long periods at a time is also required.

  • Ability to stand for at least 1 hour for presentations important.

  • Employee must be able to hear, speak and understand the words of others, as well as, the ability to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, writing utensils is essential.
