Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for officiating sports leagues for the Town of Parker.

  • Officiates assigned sporting events, games, or competitions with fairness and respect to all players and spectators in order to maintain standards of play and to enforce all game rules.

  • Maintains a safe and fun environment for all involved during league play.

  • Judges performances in sporting competitions in order to award points, impose scoring penalties, and determine results.

  • Arrives before the start of the scheduled event. Starts games on time.

  • Conducts inspections of sporting equipment, participants, and field conditions in order to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations. Promotes positive sportsmanship.

  • Verifies game scores with the Sports Supervisor (PT) onsite.

  • Resolves claims of rule infractions or complaints by participants and assesses any necessary penalties. Reports complaints made and actions taken or needed to the Sports Coordinator(s).

  • Performs disciplinary actions such as ejections for participants who violate Town Behavioral Policies.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.

Official I

  • Must be 16 years of age or older to apply.

  • Previous sports experience as a player, coach, instructor, or official is required.

  • Concussion recognition training is required within ninety (90) days of hire and must be renewed annually.

Employment Standards

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques used in recreational sporting events.

  • Knowledge of the Town of Parker's adapted rules and regulations to each specific sport.

  • Skill in verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to execute and explain proper calls and rule judgment on command.

  • Ability to accept criticism.

  • Ability to manage conflict regularly and effectively. This includes managing participants, team captains, volunteer coaches and spectators under difficult game situations.

  • Ability to issue clear, concise, verbal and/or written instructions and reports.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, team participants, various community organizations, and the general public.

  • Ability to work irregular hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Official II

  • Must be 16 years of age or older. 18 years of age preferred for adult sports.

  • 1-2 years of experience officiating higher level competitive leagues or experience as a player, coach, instructor and/or official.

  • Experience officiating adult sports is preferred.

  • Sport-specific official and/or coaching certifications are preferred but not required.

  • Concussion recognition training is required within ninety (90) days of hire and must be renewed annually.

  • 3-5 years of experience officiating higher level competitive leagues or specialized sport experience as a player, coach, instructor and/or official required.

  • Experience officiating adult sports is preferred.

  • Sport-specific official and/or coaching certifications are preferred but not required.

  • Concussion recognition training is required within ninety (90) days of hire and must be renewed annually.

Additional Information

This job posting for a Sports Official I/II/III (PT) is based on applicant experience and qualifications.

Full salary range for Sports Official I & II is: $22.81/hr. - $28.90/hr.

Full salary range for Sports Official III is: $27.24/hr. - $34.51/hr.

Part-time and Seasonal Town of Parker employees have limited access to benefits which include: employee assistance program (EAP), one (1) hour of sick time accrued for every thirty (30) hours worked, and employee plus one (1) other member in your household a membership to the Parker Recreation Center and/or Fieldhouse.
