Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities:
The Sports Camp Counselor will be responsible for guiding children between the grades of third and eighth through their camp experience to create a fun and safe environment. This position must be able to lead and motivate campers while actively supervising their designated camp programming.
The main responsibility of this position is to help maintain a high level of program quality and establish a positive relationship with all campers and their families. Camp Counselors serve as positive role models to youth and teens in accordance with Long Island University standards.
Camp Counselor Responsibilities:
Camp supervision
Direct handling of onsite hazards and/or problems that may arise
Communicate verbally with campers individually each day
Escort campers from sign-in table to assigned fields each morning and back each evening
Work as assigned by head camp coach to assist with camp programming
Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
Basic understanding of designated sport
Health and safety knowledge to ensure the safety of campers
Excellent interpersonal skills for working with campers
Exemplify great communication skills when working with coaches and summer staff
Ability to work as part of a team
Working Conditions:
Basic daily hours are required to execute the position's role responsibly.
Working outdoors for extended periods of time.
