Our Opportunity:

Chewy is seeking a highly motivated, goal-oriented, and analytical, Splunk Engineer to join our exciting and fast paced company in Dania Beach, FL. As the Splunk Engineer, you will be focused on solving business problems through implementing data driven alerting, log capture and consolidation, and analytics within Splunk. In this role, you will support the management of Chewy's Splunk environment end-to-end. You will cooperate with BI and analytics teams across the organization in finding insights and developing data solutions to support and solve comlex business problems. In this role, you should be effective at troubleshooting issues within the environment, proactively developing and implementing solutions, coordinating across business units and providing support to a growing user community. This candidate should have a passion for data, user support and a strong attention to detail.

What You'll Do:

  • Support the administration of the current Splunk environment, providing strategy and helping to defining a roadmap to support future growth of the platform

  • Perform routine maintenance, facilitate customizations and changes to the environment, and ensures system disaster recovery readiness

  • Routinely and effectively partner with business units across the company to drive usage and support adoption of the Splunk platform

  • Scope and implement Splunk projects from start-to-finish, while often working with ambiguous requests and tight timelines

  • Mentor junior developers and demonstrate coding and development best practices

  • Develop designs for technical architecture and system interfaces to meet business requirements/specifications

  • Work closely with the data teams within Chewy to develop innovative and valuable solutions to difficult and complex business problems

  • Participate in defining, developing, and implementing new monitoring frameworks to support Chewy operations

  • Support the development of analytics front-end interface for sub-skilled business teams

  • Standardize Splunk platform deployment based upon proven best practice methods, to include configuration and maintenance

  • Provide assessment services to determine data inputs and sources of machine data to be ingested into the Splunk platform

  • Provide support and guidance around adoption of automated dev-ops practices

What You'll Need:

  • Hands on experience designing for scalability, reliability, and performance

  • Proven track record in developing Splunk solutions to consolidate systems logs, alert on key metrics and working with Splunk plugins

  • Candidate must be organized, driven, and exhibit critical thinking skills

  • Candidate must have an entrepreneurial and self-starting mentality

  • Ability to plan long-term roadmaps; prioritizing and executing on business critical objectives

  • Ability to perform Data ingestion to pull data into Splunk

  • Scripting knowledge preferably Python/Bash to Develop scripts for automating routine tasks.

  • Experience in installation, configuration, and monitoring of multi-clustered environment

  • Position may require travel


  • Extensive CLI and UNIX experience

  • Knowledge of / experience with data warehousing technologies

  • Familiarity with the Tableau Data Visualization Platform

  • Experience with operating systems and hardware tuning for optimal performance
