SPI ISE Sr Discovery Scientist

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, SPI ISE Senior Discovery Scientist, are to:

  • Lead cross-functional seed technology research projects focused on bringing innovation to our seed production operations in an effort to improve cost, capacity, reliability and quality;

  • Innovate, develop, and optimize novel tools that predict, test or improve product quality performance of Bayer's major row crop and veg species;

  • Coordinate with scientists, engineers, field managers, and other personnel to ensure proper experimental setup and execution of trial from planting to harvest and storage;

  • Design strategies to optimize technology development and innovation;

  • Initiate and manage internal and external research collaborations to create and validate novel technologies applicable to seed production processes;

  • Design and execute research experiments in an efficient manner to meet project deadlines;

  • Participate and often lead in all facets of trial execution including logistics, planting, field notes, harvesting, and evaluation;

  • Be responsible for statistical analyses of results obtained in internal and external projects and subsequent decision making, including oral and written communications both internally and externally in formal reports, presentations, and posters;

  • Partner with Legal and IP teams to ensure that all research efforts are in compliance with FTO and IP valuation processes;

  • Effectively communicate and establish team goals and objectives to all relevant stakeholders;

  • Foster inter-departmental approach to research;

  • Supervise 2-3 scientific personnel and contribute to research projects, technologies, and IP;

  • Adhere to all safety and stewardship policies provided by Bayer's ESH organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology, Agronomy, Plant Sciences, Molecular Biology or related discipline with at least seven years of relevant experience OR Master of Science in Biotechnology, Agronomy, Plant Sciences, Molecular Biology or related discipline with at least five years of relevant experience OR Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Agronomy, Plant Sciences, Molecular Biology or related discipline with at least three years of relevant experience;

  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams to achieve common goals;

  • Result orientation, ability to innovate and find creative solutions to seemingly intractable problems;

  • Knowledge of statistical tools and modeling concepts;

  • Three or more years of experience in planning and executing experimental designs, and data analysis;

  • Be able to develop effective relationships with team members and stakeholders;

  • Strong communication skills to all levels of internal and external leadership and scientists/engineers with diverse backgrounds;

  • Drive and self-motivation to work in the challenging, fast-paced, and continually changing environment to enable technological innovations for unique applications in the product supply production environment;

  • Willingness to travel 10% of time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bullet Experience with Row Crop Seed Production operations.
