POSITION DESCRIPTION: All special education staff are District employees. Specific location to be determined by Director of Special Education

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: E = Essential Duties The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Provide individual and small group specialized instruction services for students with language, speech and related disorders such as students with autism, learning disabilities, orthopedically impaired, etc. E; provide identification, assessment and services to children with intensive special education needs E; plan, develop and implement IEP's E; plan and coordinate with special and regular education teachers to ensure classroom success for the students E; provide necessary staff development and consultation E; provide training for parents in conducting supplemental speech and language activities in the home and in areas such as normal child development E; other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid California Teaching Credential authorizing designated instruction and service in speech and language development and remediation and have appropriate previous experience

  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff members.

The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position Provide a thorough assessment and diagnostic for an individualized instructional program E; develop goals and objectives for students with adapted physical education handicapped conditions E; work as a member of a trans-disciplinary team for planning and implementing database instructional programs E; develop transition plans to move students to targeted integrated or community-based activities or transitions to adult lifestyles E; implement, develop, or revise instructional material, which correspond to IEPs E; implement an Individual Education Program (IEP) for all qualified students E; provide direct instruction and services to students E; monitor student progress as it relates to established IEPs E; maintain effective working relationships with parents, school personnel and other agency staff E; provide information and support to parents and families when appropriate E; maintain accurate reports, records, and files on individual students E; assist in identifying developing, and implementing appropriate use of resources E; insure a safe and healthful environment for all students served, adhering to all applicable laws, codes, and District policies E; consult with teachers to develop or modify specifically designed physical education programs E; other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE OF/REQUIREMENTS/ABILITY TO: Learning theory based upon the principals of behavior analysis and behavior modification, with an emphasis in positive reinforcement; A Critical Skills Model approach to community-based instruction; Laws, codes, and regulations as they relate to special education; Interagency relationships and effective methods of program coordination; Apply the principals of behavior analysis and behavior modification with an emphasis on positive reinforcement to the delivery of instruction; Provide instructional methodology, which results in student success and the achievement of IEP goals and objectives; Apply the techniques and methods associated with a Critical Skill Model of curriculum development with respect to community-based instruction; Develop task and activity analyses, which correspond with each student's IEP; Write performance objectives, which are measurable, observable, and verifiable; Communicate ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in both oral and written form; Maintain and improve professional skills and knowledge; Be flexible and receptive to change.
