Enhances effectiveness and efficiency of Speech Language Pathology (SLP) by contributing to development of Speech Language Pathology programs servicing patients with autism/developmental delay. Serves as a consultant in an area of specialized Pediatric Speech Language Pathology Therapy practice. Provides specialized skills and knowledge beyond the scope of staff Speech Language Pathologist, and provides direct patient care. Satisfies identified patient care needs in clinic and/or region.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides consultation and clinical guidance to Speech Language Pathology staff for pediatric patients with autism/developmental delay. Assists in management of patients with complex problems. Establishes ongoing partnerships with physicians for program development of specialty Pediatric Speech Language Pathology programs. Collaborates with physicians and other stakeholders to develop marketing and implementation plan for specialized programs. Assists in development of standards of patient care.

  • Provides direct patient care. Evaluates patients by obtaining pertinent past history, detailed account of presenting complaints, performing appropriate examination utilizing specialized evaluation expertise, sensory processing, renders follow-up treatments as appropriate. Travels occasionally to neighbor islands to provide patient care.

  • Provides education through formal in-service education to Speech Language Pathology staff and other health care professionals for pediatric patients with autism/developmental delay.

  • Compiles, analyzes and records data and information as requested for programs and projects.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in area of Pediatrics Speech Language Pathology outpatient with background in Autism/Developmental Delay.


  • Bachelor's degree in speech language pathology approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.

License, Certification, Registration

  • Valid Hawaii Speech/Language Pathologist (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure).

  • Certified Speech Language Pathologist by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)

  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.

  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy code required at time of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate application of CPT-4 codes.

  • Must be able to travel to neighbor islands for patient care.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.

  • Master's degree in speech language pathology approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association OR six (6) years of experience in a directly related field.
