Speech/Language Pathologist

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide comprehensive speech and language services to eligible students.

REPORTS TO: School Principal

Essential Functions:

  • Participate as a member of a building team in the assessment and evaluation of students.

  • Conduct diagnostic speech/language and communication assessments, identify needs, prepare therapy plans and participate in eligibility and IEP conferences.

  • Based upon student assessment, develop and implement Individualized Education Plans.

  • Provide therapeutic services to students with identified communication disorders, including case management for communication disordered only students.

  • Work collaboratively with special education and general education teams in developing and delivering speech-language services to support communication skills relevant to educational performance.

  • Monitor student's progress in therapy and generate progress reports and complete Medicaid electronic logs for eligible students.

  • Consult and communicate with other professionals and students' families regarding the needs of students.

  • Work effectively and cooperatively with parents, teachers, administrators, support staff, and community.

  • Understand and use a variety of assistive technologies and programs.

  • Understand and use a variety of augmentative communication devices and programs

  • Manage and maintain equipment, supplies, and student records

  • Participate in personal ongoing professional development.

  • Maintain student records and confidentiality.

  • Participate in State, Federal and District testing requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in speech pathology and valid Washington ESA certification as an SLP.

  • Eligible for Department of Health license as a SLP.

  • Successfully complete Washington State Patrol background check. Employee is responsible for cost of background check.

  • Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be will to actively participate in a team environment

  • Must have regular, consistent attendance.

  • Must be willing to uphold District Policies and follow administrative procedures.

  • Physical capability to respond to student in order to maintain a safe and supportive school environment.

  • Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, district and school goals.

  • Demonstrated commitment to festering a positive attitude with students and adults (staff and parents).

  • Demonstrated awareness, appreciation and respect of diversity among students and adults.

  • Sets appropriate expectations for individual students.

  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience preferred.

  • Understanding of current State and Federal laws pertaining to the education of students with disabilities.

  • Demonstrated competency with data tracking systems, IEP Development using computer supports such as Excel, Word, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize caseloads

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team.

  • Preferred training and/or experience in instructional and management strategies to include:

  • Use of educational and assistive technology

  • Knowledge of classroom and individual student behavior management techniques

  • Experience and training in student behavior intervention techniques and de-escalation

  • Experience in using a web-based IEP program, such as IEP Online

  • Training and/or experience in instructional and/or management strategies in positive behavioral support, visual systems/learning, assistive technology, social thinking, social emotional learning, curriculum adaptations, social skills instruction, communication systems, CPI nonviolent crisis intervention

  • Character to act as a role model for students in fulfilling the requirements of RCW 28A.150.211 and RCW 28A.405.030.

Terms of Employment: Continuing contract for the 2024-2025 school year with salary (Base, TRI, Ext Day, Class Funds, Start Up, PLD) and benefits provided as described in the benefit section below. At present, salary is based on the 2023-2024 Certificated Salary Schedule.

Possible additional Pay:

Department Chair $3,100.00 - $5,487.00

National Board Stipend $3,723.00 - $6,206.00

Prep Buyback Hourly rate $64.30 - $121.02

Extended Day by Time sheet hourly rate $45.93 - $86.44

Benefits

Newly hired employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours in a school year (Sept 1 - Aug 31) will be eligible for SEBB benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and long term disability.

Retirement Benefit - Teachers Retirement System options Plan 2 or 3

Every employee under contract for a full year (180 days) will receive twelve (12) days annual sick leave. Sick leave shall be prorated based on the number of paid work days out of the 180 day school year.

Every employee under contract shall receive two (2) days of personal leave.

Parental and Bereavement Leave are also a benefit.
