Overview: The speech therapist or speech-language pathologist, will specialize in diagnosing and treating communication disorders, including speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders. They will work in clients' homes, and collaborate with a team to develop personalized treatment plans.
Responsibilities:
Assessing patients' communication abilities through standardized tests, observation, and interviews.
Assisting in development individualized treatment plans to address speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders.
Providing therapy sessions to improve speech clarity, language comprehension, and communication skills.
Using various techniques and exercises to help patients strengthen their vocal muscles and improve articulation.
Teaching alternative communication methods to patients with severe communication impairments.
Collaborating with personal care aides, family members, and other professionals to support clients' progress and ensure continuity of care.
Keeping detailed records of progress, treatment plans, and outcomes in EMR system.
Staying informed about advancements in speech therapy techniques, technologies, and research.
Requirements:
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
State licensure or certification as a speech-language pathologist.
Clinical experience in diagnosing and treating communication disorders.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others improve their communication abilities.
Continuing education to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices in the field.
