Overview

Trustpoint is looking for a Part-Time Speech Therapist to join our team on our Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Unit!

Part-time position only working 20-29 hours a week.

Our purpose is to assess, diagnose, treat and help to prevent communication and swallowing disorders in adults and seniors.

TrustPoint Hospital offers the only acute, hospital-based rehabilitation in Middle Tennessee. Our purpose is to help people recovering from illness or injury attain the highest possible quality of life. Our rehabilitation center has a large therapy gym with state-of-the-art equipment and an "activities of daily living area" which includes a kitchen and laundry area. Patients receive focused care and comprehensive support they need throughout their journey to improved health. This unit offers occupational, physical, speech, and respiratory therapy. Other services like IV therapy, wound care, and rehabilitation nursing are provided.   At TrustPoint Rehabilitation Hospital, our aim is simple: to help people recovering from illness or injury attain the highest possible quality of life. Our goal is to help meet and exceed recovery goals while providing a shorter length of stay than skilled nursing facilities.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Evaluate patients' levels of speech, language or swallowing difficulty and identify treatment options.
  • Create and carry out an individualized treatment plan that addresses patient specific functional needs.
  • Teach adults and seniors how to make sounds and improve their voice and maintain fluency.
  • Help individuals improve vocabulary and sentence structure used in oral and written language.
  • Work with adults and seniors to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow.
  • Counsel individuals and families on how to cope with communication and swallowing disorder.
  • Administer hearing or speech and language evaluations, tests or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairments, using written or oral tests or special instruments.
  • Educate patients and family members about various topics, such as communication techniques or strategies to cope with or to avoid personal misunderstandings.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Speech Language Pathology or similar, as required by the state and acceptable for licensure required.
  • One or more years' experience working with population of the facility preferred.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Current active professional license or eligible for endorsement by the state in which the facility provides services.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility.
