LANGUAGE, SPEECH AND HEARING SPECIALIST
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Coordinator of Special Education, to provide language, speech and hearing services to students individually and in collaborative classroom settings.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Serve as a resource for teachers in the area of speech and language.
Assess students in speech and language to determine eligibility for services under identified State guidelines.
Provide LSH services in collaborative classroom setting and individually when necessary.
Provide support and monitor instructional assistants working with LSH program.
Maintain accurate schedules, records of student progress and attendance.
Conference with parents.
Develop an IEP for each student.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO:
Relate to LSH service and support to the core curriculum.
Communicate effectively with student, staff and parents.
Maintain appropriate documentation.
Administer and interpret testing.
Adhere to goals and objectives identified on the IEP.
Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements:
Ability to work at a desk and in meetings of various configurations.
Ability to read printed matter and computer screens.
Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.
Ability to understand speech at normal levels.
Ability to bend, twist, stoop and reach.
Ability to drive a personal vehicle to conduct business.
Ability to push, pull and transport instructional materials.
CREDENTIAL:
Must possess a valid California Clinical or Rehabilitative Services credential authorizing service as a Language, Speech and Hearing Specialist.
