Job Summary

Position Title: Staff Speech-Language Pathologist

Location: University of Kentucky Voice and Swallow Clinic

Position Overview: The University of Kentucky Voice and Swallow Clinic is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Speech-Language Pathologist to join our dynamic and fast-paced head and neck cancer clinic located in Markey Cancer Center, Kentucky's first and only NCI (National Cancer Institute)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with our renowned head and neck surgeons, providing specialized care to patients with head and neck cancer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive speech-language pathology services to patients with head and neck cancer, including those with alaryngeal speech.

  • Train patients in the use of tracheoesophageal prostheses (TEP), electrolarynx devices, and esophageal speech

  • Management of tracheoesophageal prostheses (TEP), including fitting and troubleshooting.

  • Perform diagnostic evaluations using rigid and flexible endoscopy, Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), and videofluoroscopy (VFSS/MBS).

  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on diagnostic findings.

  • Collaborate closely with our multidisciplinary team, including other speech-language pathologists, head and neck surgeons, registered dieticians, social workers, and other physicians, to ensure optimal patient care.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to the clinic's research initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.

  • ASHA Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) required.

  • State licensure in Speech-Language Pathology (or eligibility for licensure in Kentucky).

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with patients with head and neck cancer, including experience with alaryngeal speech, tracheoesophageal prosthesis management, and electrolarynx training.

  • Proficiency in diagnostic techniques including rigid and flexible endoscopy, FEES, and videofluoroscopy.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to patient-centered care.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Expected clinical skills also include assessment and treatment for vocal cord dysfunction, dysphagia, voice disturbance due to Parkinson's disease, and nasality.
