Job Duties

Hiram W. Davis Medical Center, located in Petersburg, Virginia, is a 94-bed medical facility providing acute medical diagnoses, skilled care, intermediate care, and long-term care to individuals receiving services in DBHDS facilities and within the community that have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Admissions to HWDMC are generally either permanent placement or special hospitalization. Patients typically come to HWDMC as a special hospitalization for step-down to stabilize, post-surgery rehabilitation, or long-term care.

The Clinical Services department is seeking dedicated Speech Language Pathologist to help in its mission to Habilitate/rehabilitate those referred using current theories of care, state-of-the-art technology, and practices while respecting patient individuality and rights, and integrating care delivery with other departments.

The SLP will plan, develop and implement speech therapy treatment programs. Duties involve providing direct speech therapy services to patients to include assessment, individual treatment planning, implementation, and related documentation and communication as well as orientation training and training for existing staff regarding resident needs. The incumbent will be seen as a subject-matter expert in support facility skills training initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Progressive working knowledge of the principles and practices of speech language pathology and self-evaluation techniques.

  • Demonstrated clinical skills including the ability to evaluate and assess residents' needs, design treatment plans, communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Licensed as a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience with intellectual/developmental disabilities or other mental health conditions.

  • Experience with long term care, skilled nursing facilities, or similar environments.
