The Speech-Language Pathologist has an oversight role for all students within the school setting to provide prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency. The Speech-Language Pathologist provides services to assist in reducing or eliminating speech/language (communication) disorders interfering with the student's ability to derive full benefit from the school's educational program. The Speech-Language Pathologist ensures accurate and timely reporting to the Special Education Director regarding students' performance and challenges, with recommendations for action and a summary of actions taken.
Key Responsibilities:
Organizes a program addressing the school's speech-language goals
Cooperates with school staff, community, and state programs to affect comprehensive services
Works cooperatively with school staff members to accomplish the goals and objectives of the school
Attends meetings, such as staff meetings, special education meetings, speech-language program development meetings, and parent conferences to coordinate specific objectives for individualized education programs
Serves on committees, such as curriculum development committee, school-based committees, and other speech-language committees
Coordinates speech-language services with student services provided by other school staff member
Using appropriate screening instruments, conducts speech, language and hearing screenings
Serving on student intervention/individualized education plan (IEP) team as appropriate
Administers formal and informal (ongoing and curriculum-based) assessments according to acceptable procedures
Observes students in education environments
Selects appropriate assessments based on individual student needs
Ideal Requirements:
Master's degree in speech pathology from an accredited college or university
Full state licensure from licensing [state] body
Hold a valid and unexpired Speech-Language Pathology license issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Board of Speech- - Language Pathology and Audiology
Skills and ability to communicate effectively with Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students
Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certification
Participates in ongoing professional development as needed to maintain state licensure
