The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a Speech Language Pathologist, Job Code 024, Time Schedule 380 (190 Days), Salary Range TBD, Collective Bargaining Unit

  • AEA. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Current Ohio certification, Speech Pathology;

  • Must have own transportation available daily.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • Speech and Language services provided by a speech language pathologist are provided as a supplement to the child's basic education program, either in regular education or in special education, to enable a child to access education;

  • Provides speech language pathology services as outlined in Ohio Department of Education Rules for Education of the Handicapped;

  • Follows local policies and administrative procedures to assure compliance with Federal and State rules for speech handicapped;

  • Identifies speech, language and hearing handicapped students, zero through twenty-one years of age, through provision of routine speech, language and hearing screening tests as determined by the Office of Special Education;

  • Participates as multi-disciplinary team member or consultant for possibly handicapped students;

  • Provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluations to determine communicative status and eligibility for services; identifies type of problem-articulation, language, voice, or fluency-determines severity and adverse effect upon education program;

  • Participates with other personnel to complete evaluation team reports; schedules and participates in IEP meetings to determine least restrictive environment, type and amount of program and related services to be provided; develops IEP long-term goals, specific objectives, and procedures and criteria for evaluation;

  • Maintains speech, language, and hearing record folders according to procedures developed by Office of Special Education for accountability and documentation;

  • Submits information as necessary for completion of local, state and federal reports;

  • Maintains and updates computer class rolls to assure accurate child information and case load accountability;

  • Provides a continuum of habilitating services in the least restrictive environment, including indirect services of consultation to parents and school personnel to a more intensive small group or individual remediation sections;

  • Provides periodic written reports consistent with the reporting schedule of the school district to the parents regarding the child's progress;

  • Assists as needed in the development of curriculum guide and local policy;

  • Serves as a consultant to classroom teacher;

  • Performs related duties as assigned by the building principal or the Director of Special Education.
