The Speech Language Pathologist Licensed Assistant (SLPLA) position is responsible in the assessment, planning, development, and treatment of pediatric speech language pathology therapy services for individual clients and outside contract services. The SLPLA will implement speech and language programs or activities as planned and directed by SLPs.
QUALIFICATIONS (minimum requirements)
Education and/or years' experience required:
Bachelor's degree from an ASHA accredited school for SLP or Communications Disorder degree.
Current North Dakota licensure as a speech-language pathology licensed assistant.
Preferred/Required Skills and Abilities:
Preferred experience in the areas of pediatrics, young adults, adults, and/or developmental disabilities is desired.
Ability to manage a caseload commensurate to their FTE status.
Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills; being tactful, courteous, and diplomatic with internal and external contacts, including co-workers, clients, the team, other medical professionals, and families.
Ability to adapt to rapid change and intervene promptly in crisis/emergency situations.
Supervision of others/decision making aptitude (if applicable): This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities; however, they may assist in providing direction to students completing their SLP student practicum and/or volunteers interested in the profession.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITES
Works under the supervision of a SLP, understands and monitors self-supervision and competencies according to licensure guidelines.
Under the supervision of a SLP, must be able to provide direct therapeutic intervention for a varied caseload including outpatients, Anne Carlsen residents, and public-school students in a variety of settings and with a variety of diagnoses.
Provides established treatment programs to clients; assists the SLP in evaluating, planning, organizing and implementing the speech-language therapy services for their assigned caseload; assists in establishing short and long-term treatment goals; consults with SLP and other professionals in providing services.
Collects and compiles data to document clients' performance or assess program quality; may make recommendations for changes in the SLP treatment program and collaborates with SLP on recommendations.
Documents clients' progress toward meeting established treatment objectives.
Trains direct care staff, families, education staff, and others as appropriate and directed by SLP.
Schedules time with the other therapists, client's families, home life services staff and teachers; cooperates professionally with all levels.
Completes paperwork such as daily notes, billing and discharge summaries under the supervision of SLP.
Selects and/or prepares appropriate speech-language instructional materials.

Utilizes the client's adaptive equipment as required.
May be required to manage inappropriate or disruptive behaviors displayed by clients; using gentle teaching techniques and/or the described behavior plan and facility policies and procedures.
Adheres to work schedule and maintain regular attendance
Performs Anne Carlsen Center duties as requested by the designated supervisor
Upholds Anne Carlsen Center's ethical standards and demonstrate the behavioral and service expectations as defined in our policies and procedures
Successfully completes required training and educational requirements per State, Federal, local health codes and Anne Carlsen Center policies and procedures
Offers are contingent in passing a background and drug & alcohol test upon acceptance. ACC is a drug-free, tobacco-free work environment.
