The Speech and Language Pathologist administers and coordinates diagnostic, therapeutic and consultative functions relative to communication disorders; establishes and teaches when appropriate for referrals for speech and language disorders; participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings and initiates IEPs for qualified students who need speech and language remediation; conducts preschool speech and language evaluations when needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Appropriate California Credential authorizing service as a Speech and Language Pathologist

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the administration of a Speech and Language program.

  • Demonstrated organizational ability.

  • Bilingual/Biliterate in English and Spanish preferred.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administers and interprets appropriate speech and language evaluations.

  • Consults with classroom teachers regarding students with communication disorders.

  • Consults with parents regarding methods parents can use at home to help their child with communication disorder.

  • Develops and administers a speech and language therapy program consistent with the needs of students and according to established IEP goals.

  • Consults with teachers in alleviating student's communication difficulties.

  • Participates in IEP and Student Success Team pertinent to students with speech and language issues.

  • Assists in the development of IEP goals in relation to Speech and Language.

  • Evaluates student progress in the Speech and Language program and communicates with parents and teachers.

  • Conducts regular therapy sessions, individual and groups; prepares the "goals" as part of the Speech Therapy Report on each student scheduled for therapy.

  • Provides speech and language screening services.

  • Conducts preschool speech and language evaluations as needed.

  • Communicates and coordinates the speech and language program with teachers, resources staff, and administration.

  • Develops schedules for student services.

  • Maintains student records and attendance reporting as required by the District.

  • Prepares individual case file on each pupil and those considered for therapy, including Special Language reports.

  • Participates in the completion of district Special Education reports and requests for information.

  • Consults with community agencies, medical personnel, parents, and other professionals, and acts as a liaison among these groups for children with communicative disorders.

  • Attends staff, district, county and other meetings as necessary.

  • Secures written parental consent when student is to be tested beyond screening procedures.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

  • Classroom environment and/or home/hospital instruction;

  • Driving a vehicle to conduct work as assigned by the position.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate various equipment;

  • Seeing to read a variety of materials;

  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations;

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time;

  • Walking, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, bending over, grasping, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling and moving, lifting and/or carrying 0-50 pounds to waist height.

HAZARDS:

  • Potential for contact with bodily fluids, blood-borne pathogens, and communicable diseases;

  • Exposure to anti-social behavior;

  • Driving a vehicle during adverse weather conditions.

TECHNOLOGY STANDARD

Ravenswood City School District requires employees to have technology skills. E-mail, standard software usage and data entry are employment requirements. Advanced technical skills will be obtained through on-job training as needed.
