The starting faculty salary range is between $62,299 - $71,490 (based on 2023-2024 salary schedule) for a 1.0 FTE, 168-day, faculty contract. The college is currently in negotiations for the Full-time faculty collective bargaining agreement. Following ratification of the agreement, the salary schedule for the 2024/2025 academic year may be adjusted. New faculty will be contracted for 168-day contract plus additional 3 days to attend Fall Term Instructional Strategies Institute training. LBCC offers a comprehensive benefit package.

This position is subject to Article 31 of the Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. In the event of a reduction in force, this position may be afforded less protection than non-Article 31 faculty. As a condition of employment, all new employees are required to be compensated via direct deposit.

Position Title: Speech Communication Faculty Employment Requirement Not Applicable Division/Department: Communication Location Albany Campus, Albany, OR Job Summary:

The faculty member is expected to fully engage as a teacher and faculty member in the fulfillment of the college's mission. This includes: teaching classes in the field of Communication (e.g. Public Speaking and Interpersonal Communication), advising students, developing and reviewing curricula and classes to promote student learning, serving on campus and departmental committees and task forces, fostering partnerships with community, employers, and educational organizations, and engaging in continued professional development.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Communication, Communication Studies, or Speech Communication, or a Master's degree plus a minimum of 27 quarter credit hours, or 18 semester credit hours in graduate-level Communication courses. A minimum of two years' experience teaching or professional instruction at a community college or university level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong teaching and academic expertise in Interpersonal Communication and Public Speaking.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office or classroom with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards. Requires the ability to communicate often and effectively with staff and students. It requires operating a computer and other office equipment, and considerable time may be spent working on a computer.

Essential Duties:

1.Plan, develop, and present organized learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines on topics relating to Communication.

2.Create an equitable learning environment while adhering to the college's value of inclusivity; embracing the uniqueness of every individual and promoting the free and civil expression of ideas, perspectives, and cultures.

3.Work respectfully and productively with a diverse student and staff population, including different cultures, learning styles, skill levels, socioeconomic backgrounds, races, ethnicities, genders, ages, and other demographic indicators.

4.Assume academic advising responsibilities. Develop and maintain an understanding of college processes, curricula, and technology to be an effective advisor.

5.Experience in developing, teaching, and assessing online Communication courses or developing digital assignments or projects.

6.Participate in the recruitment and retention of students.

7.Assess student learning at the course, program, and institutional level, and work to improve/refine the curricula based on results. Assist in choosing and integrating texts, material, equipment, and media to be used in learning. Share new curricular materials cooperatively with other department members.

8.Support and promote departmental initiatives including co-curricular programs and CWE opportunities.

9.Support the development of Cornerstone Project classes; a project that aims to strengthen the Humanities in LBCC's general education curriculum. Responsibilities include teaching Public Speaking with the department's transformative text and participating in a learning community with other Cornerstone faculty.



  1. Maintain competency and currency in the subject matter of courses taught as well as in teaching skills and technology.

  2. Participate on college and departmental committees, task forces, and groups as assigned with a willingness to take on a leadership role as chair in the future.

  3. Proactively collaborate with departments across the college as well as community groups and agencies to promote department goals.

  4. Other duties as assigned.
