ABOUT CALIFORNIA VIRTUAL ACADEMIES AND THE SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST POSITION: The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to TK-12 students in California.

While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. K12, inc. is our curriculum provider. The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides treatment to students in individual or group settings, targeting all domains of communication, including, but not limited to, articulation/phonology, motor disorders, voice, fluency, expressive language, receptive language/language comprehension, and social pragmatic language/social emotional learning.

The SLP may also work with students who are non-speaking/not proficient verbal speakers, who utilize Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to support expressive communication. The SLP will serve as case manager and/or provider to the students that he/she serves. The SLP is responsible for documenting student progress by maintaining accurate records of therapy sessions and completing progress monitoring, as well as completing progress reports quarterly.

The SLP supervises and collaborates with his/her assistant to support in the development of their students' Individualized Education Plans (IEP) by providing accurate data and goal progress. Speech therapy sessions are conducted online, using a HIPAA compliant video conferencing platform. Learning Coaches are required to be present for all virtual therapy sessions.

Requirements / Qualifications

The SLP manages multiple systems for maintaining and documenting student records, managing materials and equipment, and providing resources to parents to support carry-over and generalization of skills. The SLP supports and collaborates with classroom teachers and support staff by providing effective interventions to support students' communication in their learning environment.

The SLP is also responsible for completing enduring connection calls to support students' attendance and participation, as well as build rapport with families. The SLP plays a vital role in attending Student Study Team meetings by reviewing screenings and making appropriate recommendations when students are referred for communication concerns. The SLP may also offer tier 1/tier 2 interventions within the general education setting to support communication needs.

The SLP is responsible for completing virtual speech and language assessments, though the SLP may be asked to complete in-person assessments, if needed. The SLP will complete speech and language evaluation reports and review of record reports using CAVA's required report templates and will submit reports to be peer reviewed by colleagues. The SLP is responsible for developing IEPs on SEIS, scheduling team meetings, and completing/sending all IEP related documents, including but not limited to Assessment Plans, Prior Written Notices, and Individualized Education Plans.

With rolling enrollment, SLPs will schedule 30-Day IEPs as new students enroll throughout the school year. HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION: Full Time:
