Summary of Position:

Foundation Medicine is dedicated to helping bring personalized cancer medicine into routine clinical practice. Harnessing advanced technology, Foundation Medicine has developed clinical laboratory tests that broadly captures the most relevant tumor genomic and other molecular information and connects it with relevant scientific and medical knowledge to help oncologists determine the right treatment for each patient. This is a diverse, fast-paced, team oriented environment integrating laboratory science, cancer genetics and genomics, process data metrics and clinical data.

The Shipping Specialist will be responsible for the day to day operation of our block return process. The successful candidate will possess an excellent attention to detail and have some experience in data entry and/or shipping processes.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

  • Process address information provided each day to generate shipping labels.

  • Pull blocks for associated reports.

  • Assemble packages containing the supplied report, block, and shipping label for shipment.

  • Update sample tracking system as required.

  • Work with our client services team to expedite client block return requests.


  • Must possess an excellent level of attention to detail.

  • Requires effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to interact constructively with peers/teams, and ability to seek outside resources as needed.

  • Intermediate computer skills are required. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.

  • Strong documentation skills required.

  • Experience with shipping/receiving.

  • Experience working in a regulated environment (SOX, HIPAA, CLIA, FDA, CAP).

  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical lab environment.

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a combination of education and experience in a regulated environment.

  • Experience in data entry or a related field.

  • Experience in error checking or data review.

What will you do? * Provide technical assistance to our customers who are measuring water quality to the highest standards * Learn about water quality and products used to measure aspects of water quality * Develop in-depth knowledge and become a point person with expertise in products, applications, and markets. Monitor, document, and analyze specific customer experiences arising in connection with our products * Provide technical assistance in connection with the development and production of Water Analysis products and information (product manuals, guides, training material, etc.) * Interface with Thermo Fisher colleagues sharing your expertise as required, maintaining product quality and promoting customer satisfaction * Act as a primary interface between Customer Service and Engineering on specific product performance * Learn and use process improvement methods and approaches to improve customer experience and learn to learn to use our Customer Allegiance program Minimum Requirements: * BS in Chemistry, science, or engineering * One to Three years of technical experience required.
