Specification Writer

The Specification Writer is responsible for researching, creating, editing, and developing technical specifications related to Uponor products, systems, and solutions for use in commercial and other related applications. The role supports a wide range of deliverables that purposefully integrate Uponor products into commercial specifications.

Specific work includes, but is not limited to, custom specifications, submittals, etc. and other technical content as necessary. This position will also deal with the management of associated specification programs.

The Specification Writer position works cross-functionally with various departments, including Sales, Sales Training, Engineering, Construction Services, Portfolio, Technical Services and Regulatory Affairs as required. This role reports to the Manager, Product Performance and Technical Support and is considered a HYBRID position with periodic onsite work at our North American headquarters in Apple Valley, MN.

What will you be doing?

• Research and Analysis: Partner with Sales and engineering customers to create custom specifications that support the integration of Uponor products and systems into commercial projects. Conducts thorough research to gather information on project requirements, materials, and technical specifications. Analyze architectural and engineering drawings, product samples, and other relevant sources to understand project details.

• Document Creation: Develop detailed and accurate project specifications, ensuring they align with industry standards and regulations. Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather input and incorporate necessary changes into specifications.

• Quality Assurance: Review and edit specifications for clarity, completeness, and accuracy. Ensure that specifications meet project requirements and comply with relevant codes and standards.

• Communication: Communication effectively with internal teams, clients, and external vendors to gather information and address any specification-related queries. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of specifications into project documentation.

• Maintenance: Keep abreast of industry trends, regulations, and product advancements to ensure specifications remain current and relevant. Update and maintain a centralized database or documentation system for easy retrieval and reference.

• Collaborate with members of the Technical Services team, as well as cross-functionally with other departments, to help achieve corporate aspirations, strategic priorities, and growth goals.

What will you need?

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Proven experience as a Specification Writer in a similar industry.

• Strong understanding of mechanical systems and materials, including plumbing, heating, snow-melt, fire, etc.

• Ability to work independently with limited supervision while balancing a competing workload and shifting priorities day to day to meet business needs while maintaining a high level of accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.

• Proficient oral and written communication skills, decision-making, analytical and human relations skills, sound, and independent judgment

• Possesses technical skills including proficiency with MS Office products and related design software systems.

• Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced, multi-task environment and able to promote an overall positive experience with Uponor customers.

Preferred:

• Associate degree with minimum of 3 years industry knowledge

• Experience with Master Spec or other related software specification and database systems.

• Strong understanding of mechanical system design, products and operation.

• Knowledge of sustainable and energy-efficient building practices
