Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of staff pharmacists, according to standard procedures, to prepare medications pursuant to physician orders, perform sterile and non-sterile compounding, repackage bulk medication in unit dose form, restock automatic dispensing machines, handles prior authorizations, participates in inventory management activities, conducts regular unit inspections, maintains appropriate records and documentations, and routinely participates in departmental educational initiatives. Will serve as the point of contact for patients, explain benefits coverage and financial responsibilities to the patients, collect method of payment, coordinate medication refills, and delivery of medications.
Pay Range
Minimum $24.00 Midpoint $24.00 Maximum $25.00
Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.
Experience
Required: Minimum six (6) weeks of Pharmacy externship training or one year of inpatient/outpatient Pharmacy experience.
Preferred: Two (2) years or more of inpatient pediatric or specialty pharmacy experience. Experience with insurance prior authorization administration.
Education
Required: High School Diploma/ GED or equivalent.
Preferred: Associate Degree in Pharmacy Technology.
Training
Specialized Skills
Required: Proficient in English, verbal and written communications skills, and pharmaceutical calculations. Must be able to type and accurately perform computer entry. Knowledge of pharmaceutical compounding (sterile and non-sterile); proficiency in pharmaceutical math calculations; clear verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred: Familiarity with Automated Dispensing Cabinet use and other IV workflow automation; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.). Knowledge of patient eligibility and coverage confirmation as well as obtaining authorizations.
Licensure
Required: California Pharmacy Technician License.
Preferred: CPhT - Certified Pharmacy Technician; Certified Compounding Sterile Preparation (CSPT).
