Responsibilities The Clearwater Paper- Cypress Bend Mill is seeking an Environmental Engineer to provide technical guidance and assistance focused on air, wastewater, and solid waste compliance. The position will be primarily responsible for ensuring environmental compliance in those areas by: * Reviewing and maintaining compliance records and completing regulatory reports as directed * Working with third party consultants, vendors, and onsite laboratory/wastewater technician * Interacting with state and/or federal agencies on permitting and inspections * Conducting routine facility inspections and audits Key Accountabilities include: Operations Support * Interacts with the plant personnel and company management to communicate environmental requirements, identifies compliance issues, implements compliance requirements, and acts as a technical resource. * Performs facility inspections and audits. * Develops and maintains systems to ensure compliance. * Develops and provides training to mill personnel on key environmental issues. * Participates in continuous improvement activities, leading and reviewing incident investigations. * May supervise laboratory personnel. * Conducts Permitting review of capitol and maintenance projects. Regulatory Requirements * Interacts with agency personnel and plant personnel on major environmental issues. * Participates in internal and external environmental and management system audits with a focus on continuous improvement. * Provides guidance for preparation of routine regulatory reports. Prepares reports for special and major projects. * Supports and may lead environmental incident investigations prepared by site responsible departments by analyzing incidents to identify trends and areas of concern; prepares environmental incident reports when deemed appropriate using continuous improvement problem solving techniques and tools. * Supports and may lead permitting activities. * Informs management on new environmental requirements impacting the facility. Project Management * Develops and manages major regulatory consulting in conjunction with the mill engineering department, construction projects, including contracts with suppliers and consultants. * Manages routine contracts with service providers. * May work with outside consultants and contractors and legal counsel as needed, in support of the Environmental Manager. Qualifications Required education and related experience: * Bachelors degree in science or engineering required. Post graduate degree preferred. * Minimum seven years' experience in environmental required, preferably in the environmental consulting and/or pulp and paper industry or other manufacturing industry, with knowledge of wastewater treatment system operations. * Basic or Advanced Industrial Wastewater License preferred * Solid Waste License preferred Skills and Abilities (technical/professional skills, expertise and qualifications): * Must possess a high degree of problem solving skills. * Proficient in Microsoft office and at an advanced level. Competent in specialized technical software. * Must be able to work with a diverse group of people in a professional manner and be able to handle several work tasks concurrently. * This person must be able to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and take the initiative to evaluate and drive process improvements.
