General Purpose of Job
This Tax Specialist- Mutual Funds role will serve as a resource to review tax provisions and related federal, state, and insurance income tax filings for Lincoln Financial Group's proprietary mutual funds and other assigned investment products. This role will be responsible to ensure the proper tax treatment of LFG's tax positions for this area of responsibility. S/he will also act as a resource to applicable internal/external stakeholders.
Analysis and Review
Prepares and reviews LFG's mutual funds (RICs) tax provisions and related federal and state, income tax filings including ensuring completion of responsibility in an accurate and timely manner
Reviews internally or externally prepared federal/state tax returns for mutual funds. Monitors all filings for accuracy and completeness
Analyzes and prepares RIC shareholder tax reporting including Foreign Tax Credit and dividends qualifying for the Corporate Dividends Received Deduction
Collaborates effectively with applicable key stakeholders within Corporate Tax, Corporate Finance, Fund's Management and outside service providers to facilitate the accurate and timely completion of the Mutual Fund tax process
Provides support for tax planning efforts, including but not limited to, researching tax planning opportunities and measuring impact of these opportunities.
Monitors distributions to ensure compliance with IRS and SEC regulations including review of tax worksheets, estimated excise schedules, projections used for determining annual distributions, etc.
Reviews the analysis of RIC qualification tests including, but not limited to: addressing complicated issues related to the qualification tests; ensuring compliance tests are prepared accordingly; and ensuring issues are timely addressed with portfolio managers
3-5 years comparable work experience in public accounting or the financial services industry preferred
Proficiency in or knowledge of taxation and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) including, but not limited to
o knowledge of mutual fund accounting
o federal income tax within the financial services industry
o experience in RIC or securities taxation #DS-LI
