Shift 1 (United States of America)

  • Work closely with the business development group, Market Managers and Product Development Managers, and customers to develop and analyze technical and design aspects of new development opportunities under business review.

  • Work with Sales and product managers to finalize business cases;

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to multidisciplinary product development teams;

  • Follow and coordinate with assigned project team the Stage Gate process for product development (scoping, business case, development, testing, and launch); analyze key project metrics;

  • Create the product development business case, clearly documents and communicate to ensure successful sign off;

  • Establish key project metrics (product cost, project costs, schedule) and take appropriate action;

  • Provide consultation and expertise on field issues;

  • Mentor and influence product development engineers and designers;

  • Review technical inquiries of customers to recommend and quote relevant system; discuss possible new applications when needed;

  • Develop new ideas and concepts;

  • Develop new or improved methods, products, techniques, etc;

  • Advance understanding of material resources and new processes;

  • Plan, develop and perform product testing;

  • Create product testing write ups;

  • Evaluate the results of Mold flow / Rheology / FEA analysis to certify new product safety and performance;

  • Produce engineering drawings of any complexity on an as required basis

  • Provide relevant and timely information regarding project to management;

  • Enter business system information as required for SAP (parts lists, etc.);

  • Present findings and updates in written and verbal formats to senior management and customers as required;

  • Contact customers and/or suppliers to obtain and exchange information and/or decisions on design and application;

  • Provide report of results at testing stage for internal and external employees, customers and suppliers;

  • Work with patent documents and drawings, review applications and evaluate existing patents;

  • Partake in customer visits as needed; represent the company during launch stage;

  • Foster an environment of innovation with the submission of innovative ideas;

  • Make recommendations for productivity and method improvements;

  • Ensure ISO guidelines are followed;

Providing services and support to internal and external customers, suppliers

The incumbent is required to conceive, conceptualize, design and develop new products with the responsibility to solve unique/difficult problems related to melt distribution and control products. They will accomplish goals by utilizing pertinent data from peers, customer contacts, manufacturing capability, tooling design and outside sourcing. In addition to sharing expertise to the team, the Product Development Specialist may be required to use CAD tools to design optimum system operation.

The Product Development Specialist is responsible for generating technical data and information necessary for creation of new production drawings and documentation. The incumbent will conduct research on new products by identifying market trends, introducing new analytical methods, interacting with customers and industry experts, leading and mentoring other engineers and pursuing intellectual property protection.

Decision Making

As a member of the global R&D team, the incumbent will coordinate and lead cross-functional teams to develop and maintain all product development documentation. The incumbent has extensive, highly specialized technical skills and hands on training.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

The incumbent of this role must have a University Degree in Engineering, with minimum of six to seven (6-7) years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with SAP or an ERP is preferred. The individual should have an excellent record with Engineering, Sales Representatives and Manufacturing to help identify development opportunities, evaluate competitive products and determine product costing. Previous experience as Process Engineer or Mechanical Engineer or Tool and Die/Mould Maker would be an asset. Previous experience with material rheology as related to injection molding processes is required.

A strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and excellent organizational skills are required. The incumbent must be capable of reading and interpreting documents such as process documentation, blueprints, operating and instructions and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and to communicate effectively with employees, management, and customers, is a requirement.

Other required level of technical and/or practical judgment to perform the work

Ability to spearhead development of program strategies and analysis of new products, as needed (e.g. target customer evaluation, timing/scheduling strategy, etc); highlight concerns or trends in the market. Information collection and analysis, presentation preparation and delivery and written proposal development; lead design reviews as required; ability to cultivate positive relationships with customers.

Physical and Sensory demands are representative of an employee working in a fast-paced office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision requirements are good general vision, ability to distinguish between colours, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Requires close attention to detail to ensure accurateness of conception.

The incumbent in this role will work in the office environment and production plant. The noise level is moderate; safety boots and eye protection are required; the working area is climate controlled.
