Job Title: Specialist, International Student Admissions and Enrollment

The International Student Specialist manages the application and admission processes supporting international student enrollment. Additionally, they function as the College's Designated School Official with the Department of Homeland Security; provide ongoing education to and monitoring of current international students; apply federal regulations pertaining to reporting of international students; and handle all admission related immigration issues for current and applicant students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES
Review and determine eligibility of applied international students.
Communicate next steps, needed documents and admission decisions with applicants in a timely manner.
Process F-1 applications and documents necessary to maintain F-1 status.
Maintain and manage admissions information in the Banner student system.
Collaborate with stakeholder departments and outside agencies regarding prospective student issues related to admissions.
Monitors compliance with government regulations ensuring a high standard of cooperation between FERPA and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regulations with respect to admissions practices.
Manage and conduct required semester orientations for all incoming students on topics related to maintenance of lawful status, college resources, and academic issues.
Advise international students on maintaining lawful status regarding regulations, policies and procedures to avoid severe consequences for non-compliance.
Monitor academic and graduation progress of international students.
SEVP/SEVIS (Student & Exchange Visitor Program/ Student & Exchange Visitor Information System) Reporting
Serves as Designated School Official (DSO) on record with the DHS and is responsible for carrying out federally mandated regulations on behalf of the College.
Provide functional support for international students including, but not limited to, SEVIS record maintenance and federally-mandated registration and reporting for each term.
Responsible for on-going data maintenance and integrity in SEVIS systems.
Must exhibit a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.
May have contact in person, by email, or by phone with staff, students, and the general public.
Works collaboratively with other departments, faculty and staff.
Maintains records of currently enrolled international students and insures data in all applicable systems is accurate through routine monitoring.
Manages confidential paper and electronic files in accordance with the College, FERPA, USCIS, DHS and DOS regulations.
Initiates and answers inquiries through phone, print and electronic mediums with applicants and current students.
Assists with Admissions related events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
May work around standard office conditions.
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
May work evenings, weekends and holidays/breaks as business needs dictate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of F-1 Visa regulations and SEVIS preferred.
Knowledge of FERPA and higher education regulations preferred.
Demonstrate excellent writing, communication and presentation skills to groups of all sizes.
Must be able to work independently, respect confidentiality, possess a collaborative mindset, demonstrate initiative and abilities to problem solve and/or negotiate solutions, and maintain courtesy in dealing with students and constituents.
Detail-oriented work style with focus on accuracy, ability to research and analyze information - including government documents and regulations, and ability to execute procedures/processes.
Bachelor's degree required.
3-5 years as Designated School Official (DSO) experience required.
At least three years' experience in a comparable position desired, especially as it relates to higher education institutions and processing international students.
Experience with Ellucian Banner and Cognos preferred.
