JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Food Services Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor's degree, preferably in food service management or nutrition, or equivalent.
Hold and maintain a New Jersey Food Handler's certificate for food workers employed in the state of New Jersey.
At least five (3) years working in food services; preferably within a school setting.
Knowledge in nutrition menu and food preparation, health and safety regulations, financial and purchasing practices, and state, federal, and local regulations regarding food service operations and child nutrition programs.
Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with staff, administration, parents, and the community.
Management and communication skills.
Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal registered alien status.

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Food Services
Food Services Manager

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all staff for excellent performance and responsibility for behavior.

Ensure the safe and sanitary operation of the food service areas and equipment of each school, instructing personnel in proper use and procedures when necessary; so that all federal, state, and local requirements are met and exceeded.

Train personnel to prepare meals following the assigned menu.

Coordinate the ordering and delivering of pre-plated lunches.

Train school Cook Managers and Head Lunch Aides to maintain accurate daily inventory of supplies and food used.

Review the Cook Manager's weekly orders for food and supplies. Promptly inform the Coordinator of Food Service of needed food and supplies. Order food and supplies from approved vendors, following established procedures.

Train personnel to maintain proper storage, security of food and supplies, HACCP regulations, rotate inventory in freezers, refrigerators, and storage areas to ensure freshness.

Plan and provide well-balanced, nutritious and attractive meals at a reasonable cost within the guidelines of the USDA and other standards.

Review the operation of full-service kitchens and limited service facilities within the district.

Train personnel for the cleanup of equipment, areas and ensure that the facilities are clean and secure before finishing the day.

Ensure that all Food Service staff meet and exceed all applicable health and safety requirements.

Ensure that all required health and sanitation rules and regulations are met and exceeded so that each facility is approved and is attractive, clean and safe.

Conduct regular inspections of all school kitchens, storage areas, cafeterias, and equipment to ensure that high standards for cleanliness, attractiveness and safety are maintained.

Ensure proper disposal of all waste from the food services department, using acceptable recycling practices.

Assist in providing a regular program of staff development to promote nutrition, safety, cleanliness, efficiency, and proper equipment use and care.

Maintain effective communications with students, staff, and parents to elicit support and to seek ideas and perceptions of the food services program so that the program can be improved.

Organize, prepare, and service special functions within school district as directed by the Coordinator of Food Services.

Serve and/or cook in the school assigned as needed.

Communicate regularly with the Coordinator of Food Services and Food Services Manager, Principals, and appropriate staff about the needs and regulations and procedures for the effective operation of the food services programs of the schools so that cooperative working relationships with building staff are encouraged and maintained.

Participate in staff meetings, administrator meetings, and committee meetings.

Maintain copies of all necessary records and forms related to supervised programs and services.

Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences.

Adhere to New Jersey school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and regulations, and contractual obligations.

Perform all other duties as required by law, code, or Board policy.

Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Superintendent or designee may assign from time to time and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve (12) months.
Contract terms, salary, and benefits as established by the collective bargaining agreement.
Conditions established by laws and codes of New Jersey; and policies, rules, and regulations established by the Passaic Board of Education.
Non-tenurable.

EVALUATION: Evaluated by the Coordinator of Food Services or Food Services Manager.
