The Strategic Business Communications (SBC) team enables the Mars Leadership Team (MLT) and Board to deliver breakthrough performance through transformation that accelerates growth and value creation for Mars, Incorporated. Team members: (1) create the conditions for strategic decisions to be made in line with critical MLT priorities through meeting effectiveness; and (2) drive delivery of the Mars, Incorporated Enterprise Strategy through key communications and senior stakeholder engagement.

As a part of the SBC team, the Specialist, Board & MLT Effectiveness will continuously strive to further the MLT's priorities by playing a key role in planning and executing strategic interactions. The role partners closely with the Senior Director, Board & MLT Effectiveness and VP, Business & Change Communications in strategic leadership engagement delivery. The role's scope is global and cross-functional.

Reports to the Senior Director, Board & MLT Effectiveness and engages with stakeholders across the business.

The Board & MLT Effectiveness Specialist will be expected to:

  • Work across the Board & MLT Effectiveness team to support its objectives.

  • Partner across the SBC Team on jointly-owned projects.

  • Communicate with the Senior Leaders and global teams across Mars to manage the Corporate Calendar and delivery of Board and MLT engagement touchpoints.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred in a related discipline (e.g., Communications, Journalism, Business

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in related work

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Excellent English grammar, proof-reading and editing skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Sharepoint, Teams and Adobe
  • Cross-functional experience working across a variety of functions, at a variety of levels

  • Preference will be given to those who have experience working in/with Mars, Incorporated

  • Key Mars Leadership Competencies: Process management, Problem solving, Drive for results, Approachability, Dealing with ambiguity, Comfort around higher management

  • Demonstrate Corporate Affairs Fundamentals

  • Communication & Presentation Skills: Exceptional ability to articulate and communicate messages and ideas in a clear, structured and compelling manner to persuade and influence. Interact with and influence all levels of management.

  • Governance, Ethics & Compliance: Support Board and MLT governance processes. Persistence in finding applicable solutions to niche requests involving heightened sensitivity and confidentiality.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Manage the Corporate Calendar to ensure the Board, MLT and key stakeholders have time dedicated to the most strategic tasks.

  • Support Board and MLT meeting materials preparation and logistical execution for in-person, hybrid and virtual interactions.

  • Support logistical execution of the Compass Meeting and Leadership Summit.

  • Serve as a project team member including documenting and refining goals, notes and actions, supporting the Effectiveness team to ensure timely follow-through of projects.

  • Review and edit messaging and preparatory materials for key stakeholders.

  • Draft communications with direction as needed.

  • Responsible for capability building with business partners and their teams to support the agenda. Managing work through others as needed (Digital Technologies, agency partners, etc.).

  • Approximately $50M budget management
