Specialist - Registered Dietitian (Part-Time, Variable Hour)

Join UVU's Recreation and Wellness team and play a pivotal role in supporting students and employees through personalized nutrition counseling, comprehensive wellness education, and engaging community events. The Registered Dietician assists in administering a comprehensive wellness education and prevention program for Recreation and Wellness under the direction of the Wellness Programs Director. Provides nutrition consultation, counseling, and education for UVU students and UVU employees, focusing on helping the participant develop a healthy relationship with food and nutrition with an emphasis on intuitive eating. Evaluates psychosocial, functional, and behavioral factors related to food access, selection, preparation, and physical activity. As needed, coordinates nutrition plan of care with Student Health Services.  Attends and participates in meetings as the nutrition expert. Plans and conducts monthly cooking demonstrations, plans and implements nutrition events, participates in bi-annual health fair events, and creates and gives presentations as needed. Creates weekly nutrition-related social media posts for Wellness Specialist. Assists wellness interns by reviewing and approving nutrition-related material for educational booths. This position requires 25 hours of work per week, with the schedule being collaboratively determined by the employee and supervisor within business hours and based on department needs.

• Assess the nutritional status of student and employee clients and groups and provide appropriate, evidence-based dietary recommendations relating to menu planning, food selection, food preparation and budget issues and weight management as they relate to overall well-being.

• Participate in on-campus nutritional and wellness program education planning, implementation and evaluation as appropriate.

• Work with other staff (Health Educators, Medical Services, Counseling, and Athletic Trainers) to provide care and education to students at risk for eating disorders and other nutrition-related disorders.

• Promote better nutrition by speaking to groups about diet, nutrition, and the relationship between healthy eating habits and preventing or managing specific diseases.

• Keep up with the latest nutritional science research.

• Perform other job related duties as assigned.

• BS or MS in Dietetics.

• Minimum 1-2 years of experience in clinical, university, public health or institutional setting.

Licenses or Certifications

• Certified Dietician in the State of Utah.

• Registered by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

• Familiarity with concepts of intuitive eating.

• Knowledge of current trends in college student consumption and relationship of nutrition to other issues, such as substance use, affecting college students.

• Working knowledge of human behavior and techniques for the modification of eating habits.

• Strong facilitation and presentation skills.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Must also have intermediate desktop publishing and word processing skills.

•  Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form to clients, public, and UVU staff.

• Ability to organize tasks and function independently.

• Ability to counsel and motivate others, and individuals and as a group.

• Ability to develop curriculum as it relates to nutrition education and promotion in a University population.
