The Long Beach Police Department is accepting applications for Special Services Officer II (Non-Career) within the Investigations Bureau Registrant Desk. The Special Services Officer will be responsible for booking appointments and supervising members of the public as they attend mandated registration appointments for crimes related to sex, arson, gang and narcotics involvement.

The Long Beach Police Department is the second largest municipal police agency in Los Angeles County and provides law enforcement services to the 7th largest city in the State of California. Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1,600 work hours available over a 12-month period, and are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. However, non-career employees may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions.This position will:

  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external partners.

  • Answer phone calls and schedule appointments.

  • Maintains activity logs and records.

  • Compile, analyze data and produce monthly reports.

  • Prepares legible, accurate and complete crime or incident reports.

  • Interview registrants regarding updates to residence address/location, employment, vehicles, emergency contact, personal appearance/SMT and phone.

  • Performs "recent consultations" in person and via phone (for non-in-person) status updates (DOJ requirement as part of auditing mandates.)

  • Assist Parole Agents, US Marshalls, and other Law Enforcement Partners regarding whereabouts of their 290s.

  • Performs digital fingerprint capture and photograph 290 via Live Scan machine.

  • Performs ink prints on fingerprint card and registration form.

  • Use department resources to perform queries for warrants, probation, vehicle registration, and CLETS CSAR entry/update.

  • Collaborate with Legal Compliance for 290s with warrants.

  • Collaborate with other Investigation Bureau details to determine compliance, verify address, or frequent locations.

  • Performs second party verifications of CSAR Entry (8102) (CLETS).

  • Responds to subpoena, makes personal appearance to attend/testify in court.

  • Operate office equipment such as computers, photocopier, fax, and department resources/software (RMS, CLETS, CHHRS, CSAR, Teams, and Outlook).

  • Oversees the maintenance of office facilities, and equipment.

  • May perform as dispatcher using radio or telephone.

  • Perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • One (1) year of paid experience working with customers or clients.

  • Ability to work any assigned shift, including holidays, nights, and weekends.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willingness to provide excellent customer service.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Proficient in conflict resolution and problem solving.

  • Familiar with computer operations.

  • Bilingual skills are highly desirable.
