The Office of Community Engagement at Bunker Hill Community College seeks to hire a part-time Special Projects Coordinator in the field of social work, education, or student development. Bunker Hill Community College's Office of Community Engagement promotes service learning and civic engagement as a special form of experiential education. Students engage in organized activities designed to enhance their understanding of course content, meet community needs, develop career-related skills, and become responsible citizens.
Special Projects- Volunteer Coordinator
The Special Projects- Volunteer Coordinator will take the lead in implementing the Community Engagement Office's co-curricular programming for students. The Special Projects- Volunteer Coordinator will work to deepen students' community engagement experiences through developing and delivering a series of events, trainings, materials and workshops that will enable students to make the most of their volunteering experiences.
Service Months Program: Service Months offer themed monthly volunteer opportunities that provide a fun and accessible way for BHCC students, faculty and staff to participate in the local community as volunteers.
Schedule, organize, recruit, and assess all aspects of Service Months program
Keep organized records and compile data reports of all students who sign up and the hours of service they complete
Work with existing and establish new relationships with community partners
Plan our Holiday Social and annual Community Engagement Student Award Ceremony
Occasionally travel out of office to community sites with students
Supervision of Student Leaders:
Service Leaders will help run the Office of Community Engagement's Service Months. The Service Leaders will support the office's work and raise awareness and excitement about service at BHCC.
Hire, train, supervise and track hours for student employees.
Collaborate with service leaders in leading volunteer events, hosting workshops and developing a student outreach and media campaign.
Design and deliver trainings and materials on topics such as for conflict resolution, social justice issues, connecting experiences to career and academic goals, and leadership.
Co-curricular Resource Development:
Volunteer & Engagement Advising:
Advise students in community opportunities (service opportunities related to their interests).
Develop and host a series of student-centered workshops for students looking to volunteer and give back to their communities, all while getting real life experience for their academic and professional careers.
Serve as an advisor to the student volunteer club as well as connect other clubs on campus with volunteer opportunities.
Degree in Education, Social Work, Student Development and/or Non-profit management
Working background knowledge of experiential education theories and pedagogies of service learning, internships, learning communities, and strength based advising
Strong interest in working with multicultural, multi-generational, non-traditional, International, and ELL students in a college setting
Strong organizational and time management skills
Flexible, independent worker with strong initiative and good sense of humor
Desire to work with and mentor students in fulfilling personal, academic and professional goals
Interest in working with new media technologies preferred
Experience with event planning is desired
Salary:18hr/wk @ 28.29/hr (non-benefitted)
