We are seeking a dedicated Special Projects Manager. In this position you are responsible for prioritizing, managing and coordinating a number of complex projects. Interviews project sponsors to fully understand business needs, criteria for success and time-line. Conducts research, provides data, makes recommendations and implements solutions via thorough action plans to achieve project goals and objectives. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff, holding them accountable to following the plans and achieving desired outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Travel extensively (up to 75%) nationwide via airplane and/or vehicle (often with little notice)

  • Completes other projects and duties that may be assigned

  • Creates and maintains relationships with a cross sector range of project stakeholders including senior executives

  • Defines, designs, drives and documents action plans to successfully accomplish project goals

  • Ensures the scope of the project fits the budget and that the staff completes each phase of the project within the scheduled time-line and budget

  • Manages a team of Project Specialists, assigning them projects (or pieces of it) and holding them accountable to meeting agreed upon deadlines and the desired results

  • Participates in department and company meetings, events, etc. as determined by Supervisor

  • Prioritizes, organizes and manages special projects, as assigned by the Senior Director

  • Remains current in company processes, policies and strategies through review of pertinent publications, newsletters, webinars, workshops and self-study

  • Submits updated project reports to the Senior Director as requested

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of Project Specialists, assigns them projects in keeping with key company initiatives, ensures that action plans are developed and executed and that the stated goals of the project are met in accordance with predetermined deadlines; uses coaching and adult learning techniques to drive results


Employment is contingent on

  • Background investigation (company-wide)
  • Drug screen (when applicable for the position)
  • Valid driver's license in state of residence with a clean driving record (when applicable for the position)

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required

  • Master's degree highly desired

  • Three years' project management experience required

  • Two years' supervisory experience required

  • Proficient in Microsoft office products and Visio. IMB Cognos a plus

  • Thorough understanding of our product lines, location operations, billing practices and standard financial reports

  • Ability to multi-task and track status of multiple projects of equal importance

  • Ability to work autonomously and to take direction as needed

  • Attention to detail composing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines, often under pressure

  • Demonstrated project management skills with ability to hold self and others accountable for high-quality, timely and effective results

  • Demonstrates ability to accurately identify project needs

  • Effectively communicate in English; both oral and written, with vendors, employees and management to ensure questions and concerns are processed in a timely manner

  • Excellent written and facilitator skills

  • Exceptional relationship management and customer service skills, responding to the needs of internal and external customers

  • Helpful, knowledgeable and polite while maintaining a positive attitude

  • Interprets a variety of instructions in a variety of communication mediums

  • Maintain confidentiality and practice discretion and caution when handling sensitive information

  • Multi-task along with attention to detail

  • Self-motivation, organized, time-management and deductive problem solving skills

  • Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills with ability to build processes and metrics to determine where the team excels and how to improve results and completion times

  • Strong performance coaching skills and experienced writing performance evaluations

  • Work independently and as part of a team

Physical Demands

  • Lift and carry up to 10 pounds around the office at times

  • Requires sitting, walking, standing, talking or listening

  • Requires close vision to small print on computer and or paperwork

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. during travel

  • Regularly review documents with small print

  • Travel extensively (up to 75%) nationwide via airplane and/or vehicle (often with little notice)

  • Utilize computer for extensive hours
