White Plains Hospital Job Description Title: Special Procedures Technologist Job Code: 500317 Department/Location: Radiology- Interventional Radiology FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Radiology Clinical Excellence Position Summary: Performs special procedures, interventional imaging. Prepares patient for procedures. Assists radiologists when needed. Prepares, operates and cares for the equipment being used. Adheres to established standards of care. Pursues appropriate continuing education. Assumes responsibility for assigned area and duties. Adheres to established customer service programs. Performs other duties as assigned, such as quality assurance. Exercises professional judgments in performance of procedures. Provides patient care. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations, observing different and special requirements for each protocol including proper documentation on images and required body part questionnaires Assumes responsibilities for designated areas and/or procedures and produces good technical images, reviewing completed scans for quality, completeness for the type of test ordered Assists physicians during procedures as necessary On Call rotation required Performs quality assurance and calibrations as needed Will be required to work in case of emergency procedures or when situations arise in the department Maintains the cleanliness of all areas, equipment and accessories. Reports all malfunctioning equipment to Supervisor/Manager Prints patient CD if needed Performs routine office duties, such as answering the phones, checking previous reports/ films, documents information on patients request, utilizes EMR and PACS systems Notifies front desk staff upon exam completion May be assigned as instructor or preceptor Introduces themselves and educates each patient or family member regarding the examination that is ordered Should be knowledgeable and skillful in providing care, based on age, physical and psychosocial stature of patient populations; pediatric, adolescent, adults and geriatric groups. Attends staff meetings and in-services Performs all other related duties as assigned EducationExperience Requirements: The IR/Special Procedure Technologist must be a graduate of an allied health education and accredited radiography school or hospital based program. NY State DOH Licensure or Limited Permit required. ARRT registered (RT) and radiograph (R). ARRT Vascular Interventional certification within 1 year of hire highly preferred. BLS certification through the (AHA) American Heart Association is required or must be completed with 90 days of hire. 2 years neuro interventional experience required for newly hired Special Procedures Technologists working in Neuro Interventional Radiology (NIR). Existing employees must demonstrate competency to perform NIR procedures. Core Competencies: Must be able to speak, write, understand and communicate the English language.
