Special Needs Teacher

General Description of Position Duties:

• Hold a valid state teaching certification in Special Education.

• Possess experience teaching or coaching middle school students, ideally in a Special Education environment.

• Have a deep understanding of middle school social studies standards.

• Demonstrably passionate middle school students and curriculum.

• Are a creative and resourceful educator with a knack for connecting with middle school aged students.

• Possess excellent communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.

Special Skills, Training or Aptitudes Required or Desired: Work with students with

disabilities. Collaborate with general education teachers to deliver content to students with

a variety of needs. Able to work with a group of teachers in a team concept. Have good

organization skills and be adaptable to new situations.

Physical and Mental Efforts:

a) This position requires a high level of physical and mental endurance

b) Sitting in an office/classroom environment, performing tasks on a computer or other

technical devices.

c) Frequent standing, particularly for sustained periods of time

d) Frequent walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long

distances or moving from one part of the building to another.

e) Constantly talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas to colleagues and/or students

accurately, loudly, or quickly

f) Ability to hear and listen to detailed information through oral communication.

g) Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

h) Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.

i) Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
