The Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District is seeking an energetic Special Educator with a love for working with elementary students who have unique behavioral and emotional needs to join our dynamic team. This individual must enjoy working in a co-teaching model as part of a creative and hard-working team (including building staff and mental health providers) to provide academic and social emotional education to students in an alternative environment, with the goal of transitioning successfully into community schools.
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
A sincere belief that all students can learn and grow
The ability to build and foster positive rapport and trust with students and families
Effective communication with colleagues, students, and families
Familiarity with behavior management techniques such as Crisis Prevention and Intervention, Zones of Regulation, Collaborative Problem Solving, Life Space Crisis Intervention, Restorative Practices, etc.
The ability to successfully de-escalate and support students in crisis, resolve conflict and handle stress.
Knowledge and understanding of early literacy development and structured literacy instruction
Knowledge and understanding of early Mathematical development and instruction
The ability to modify curriculum to meet the needs of a wide variety of students
Knowledge of special education rules and regulations.
A confident and calm demeanor and fantastic sense of humor!
Job Requirements
Active Vermont Special Educator License
Experience in behavioral management techniques/interventions
Strong collaboration skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
Bachelor degree preferred
Citizenship, residency or work visa required
