Position Summary:
The Special Education Teacher insures the Therapeutic Learning Center client safety and educational service quality. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for coordinating and/or implementing all aspects of each assigned students' educational programming; developing and implementing all aspects of each child's Individualized Educational Plan in accordance with all federal, state and local special education regulations under Federal No Child Left behind Act of 2001 and all related chapters of the Pennsylvania Code.

Position Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Education and Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in the exceptionalities in which services will be rendered (Special Ed Certified). The position must have demonstrated an understanding of the dynamics of emotionally disturbed children and adolescent growth and development. Preferred: Master's degree in Education along with two years of teaching experience.

The position must support the organization's mission along with sensitivity of cultural and workplace harmony.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain the TLC's philosophy, principles and procedures in all facets of performance.

  • Communicate, collaborate and meet with staff, families, external agencies and/or others as necessary to support services to clients and the mission of the agency.

  • Provides scheduled and unscheduled behavioral interventions (including timely submission of Incident Reports) to insure implementation of the therapeutic process as well as the safety of the milieu.

  • Coordinates the educational process with the student, his or her family, and the Referring School District.

  • Completes each client's initial Individualized Education Program (IEP), coordinates IEP Review Meetings with each client's family or guardians, and the Referring School District, and completes Report Card and/or other academic progress reports quarterly and/or as assigned.

  • Meets and contributes to Treatment Team as assigned.

  • Maintains contact with each family through quarterly academic progress reporting and as required by the team.

  • Completes and submits all Educational Services supporting documentation, including but not limited to schedules, lesson plans, and grades (progress reports) within established timeframes.

  • Provides group coverage as needed and/or assigned.

  • Attends and contributes with all meetings, supervisions and trainings as required.
