RSU5 is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, experienced teacher-leader to join a collaborative team of educators, related service providers and support staff, working together to meet the individual needs of high school students with significant cognitive and neurodevelopmental disabilities in a specialized program/classroom. The ideal candidate is an educator and student advocate with a true passion for working with students with cognitive and/or neurodevelopmental disabilities to help them learn the academic, independent functioning, communication, social-emotional, and problem-solving skills to gain the highest degree of independence, make progress in standards-based learning, and attain person-centered educational milestones.

Strong teacher leadership skills, organizational skills, communication skills, collaboration skills, flexibility, and the ability to multi-task and think quickly are required to carry out the duties of this job. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a versatile skill set, experience programming for students with neurodevelopmental disabilities, and a willingness to proactively and creatively find way to reach, teach and support students in attaining the greatest degree of independence. Responsibilities included classroom management, scheduling and coordination with related service providers, planning and delivering specialize instruction, managing an assigned caseload, maintaining regular communication with parents, support staff and related service providers, and developing, revising and implementing IEPs. The ideal candidate is a caring, compassionate, student advocate who is dedicated to engineering and supporting opportunities that will help students become casual agents over their own lives and attain the greatest degree of independence.

Requirements:

Must hold a valid 282- Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certification from Maine Dept. of Education.
