Purpose of the Position: Ensure that every child, regardless of their individual challenges, receives a tailored and inclusive education. This position is for a self-contained classroom working with autistic students and is structured in Levels 1 and 2. Students in these levels exhibit delays both socially and academically. Level 1 students demonstrate increasing integration with the general education peers but, may require assistance with task focus, mobility, and toileting. Level 2 students typically remain in the self-contained classroom setting, though they engage with general education peers during elective classes, lunch, and recess. Additional support in mobility, toileting, and communication is crucial for these students. These classrooms are available to all grade levels and are typically divided into K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and high school grades 9-12+.

Overtime Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $65,000-$70,000 per year

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Plans program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.

  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.

  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.

  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.

  • Assesses the mastery of student learning on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.

  • Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.

  • Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.

  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing students life and conduct for the classroom; develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner

  • Participates in extracurricular assignments as needed.

Minimum Skills or Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree (BA) from four-year College or university

  • An appropriate and current Arizona Teaching Certificate

  • Valid Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance card.

  • Special Ed Certification

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Occasional exposure to dust, pollen, and fumes

  • Requires frequent reaching, handling, sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, running, carrying, and lifting 50 or more lbs.

  • Must be able to see and hear within normal range with or without correction.

  • The noise intensity level is moderate to high
