Position Overview:

As a Special Education Preschool Classroom Teacher, you will play a crucial role in providing specialized instruction and support to students with a variety of learning and emotional disabilities. You will provide specialized designed instruction and support to help students with disabilities access the curriculum, develop independence, and achieve academic success.

Key Responsibilities:

Individualized Instruction:

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with learning and emotional disabilities.

  • Provide targeted instruction to address academic and behavioral needs, adapting teaching strategies to individual learning styles.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure the inclusion and success of students with learning disabilities in the mainstream classroom.

  • Organize, plan, and actively participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings.

Resource Management:

  • Utilize available resources effectively to support student learning and success.

  • Advocate for and coordinate resources that remove barriers to learning for students with basic learning disabilities.

Data-Informed Decision Making:

  • Collect and analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions and adapt teaching strategies.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to assess the effectiveness of interventions and adjust as needed.

Inclusive Learning Environment:

  • Foster a classroom environment that is not only safe but also inclusive, nurturing, and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction.

  • Implement strategies to promote a sense of belonging and engagement for students with basic learning disabilities.

Professional Development:

  • Stay current with advancements in special education practices and research.

  • Engage in continuous professional learning to enhance instructional effectiveness.

Parent Communication:

  • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians, sharing insights into students' progress and achievements in the course.

Community Engagement:

  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and the broader community to enhance student success.

  • Provide guidance and support to families in understanding and navigating the special education process.

Additional Duties:

  • Performs other related tasks assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. It is essential to note that the above description is illustrative and not exhaustive.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Master's degree preferred).

  • Valid Special Education teaching certification.

  • Experience working with students with basic learning disabilities.

  • Commitment to educational equity, inclusivity, and community empowerment.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher Early Childhood Special Education

  • Master's Degree (M.A.) in Education or related field (preferred)

  • Minimum of three (3) years previous teaching experience or school experience in teaching (preferred)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card

  • Valid Arizona Early Childhood Special Education Teaching certificate

Working Environment:

  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • May be required to travel to various school district buildings and attend professional meetings as needed, actively participating in the collective efforts to empower the community.

Terms of Employment:

  • Salary schedule commensurate with education and experience for this position
  • 188 day new teacher contract - per work calendar for this position
  • 186 returning teacher contract - per the work calendar for this position

Clearances:

  • Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination

  • Valid I-9 form

  • AZ Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Evaluation:

  • Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the site administration in accordance with Governing Board Policy.
