Premier non-profit is seeking a Special Education Teacher for one of its vastly growing programs. Pathways Strategic Teaching Center is a year-round comprehensive education and treatment program, servicing children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other related disorders. Founded in 1988 through a collaborative effort between the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center and local parents of children with autism, Pathways is committed to utilizing scientifically validated teaching methodologies in improving the lives of individuals with ASD and their families. Pathways education and treatment strategies are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Individually tailored curricula address speech and language, pre-academic and academic skills, daily living and self-care skills, play and social skills, vocational skills, and assessment & treatment of challenging behavior.
Overview of Responsibilities:
Special Education Teachers will assist in the development, refinement, and maintenance of behavior analysis educational and treatment programs, under the direction of the program Director, Director of Special Education or designated Behavior Analyst. Implement and supervise the implementation of such programs by lead teacher assistants and teacher assistants. Assist in trainings, monitoring of treatment integrity, and program evaluation. Facilitate student transitions into the program, within the program and from the program to other educational settings. Providing consultation and educational opportunities to the community under the direction of supervisors.
Bachelors degree in education and special education with noted certification in Secondary or All grades required
Minimum of two years of experience working with children diagnosed with autism and other developmental disabilities utilizing applied behavior analytic teaching methods
Experience developing individual child curriculum preferred, as well as experience in training others to implement behavior analytic teaching practices and behavioral/educational measurement
Skills in effective communication with parents and community based officials are essential
Ability to deal with the broad range of needs presented by students with autism, including significant problem behaviors. Work will often include sitting in small chairs or on the floor and require rapid movement to address safety and teaching needs of the children
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work with students in such a way as involves physical contact, particularly when there is a child safety need
Ability to assist student with self-care and toileting
Ability to communicate effectively- verbally & written
Must have a valid driver's license, safe driving record, automobile insurance, and access to a vehicle to be used as directed and when needed for transport
Must have and maintain pediatric CPR certification
BCI, Fingerprinting, and immunizations are required
Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in United States required
