Job Summary

Provide a special education program for pupils REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Teach assigned curriculum areas and courses of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.

Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Provide planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilize the available time for instruction; identify and adjust instructional objectives in terms of student need using District standards, goals and objectives as guidelines. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom; support and assist in maintaining district discipline policy and the site discipline plan. Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records and prepare progress reports; communicate with parents on the individual pupil's progress. Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.

Create a functional and attractive environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, and bulletin boards. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities. Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the teacher evaluation process in conformance with district guidelines.
