Special Education Teacher

Teaching Certificate Required: Valid Indiana Special Education/Mild Interventions License

Previous Teaching Experience Required: Preferred but not required

General Description of Position Duties: Serve as Teacher of Record and Teacher of Service by providing Instruction for students in Inclusion/Resource Setting.

Special Skills, Training or Aptitudes Required or Desire: Special skills and ability to work within an Inclusion/Resource setting. Utilize IIEP for record keeping and data collection in accordance with Article 7. Must understand and follow the laws, policies, and procedures regarding the Article 7 law. Must understand the Science of Reading, the development progression for reading, writing, math, and socio-emotional of students ages 5-13. Provide specially designed curriculum and behavior modification for students who are eligible for special education services.

Physical and Mental Efforts:

• This position requires a high level of physical and mental endurance

• Sitting in an office/classroom environment, performing task on a computer or other technical devices

• Frequent stand, particularly for sustained periods of time

• Frequent walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularity for long distances or moving from one part of the building to another

• Constantly talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas to colleagues and/or students accurately, loudly, or quickly

• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

• Ability to hear and listen to detailed information through oral communication.

• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision

• Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
