JOB GOAL: The Special Education Facilitator will provide special education services to students and their families using the Personalized Learning model of education.

He or she will meet regularly with individual students and their parents, designing an individualized curriculum to meet each student's needs, interests, and develop his or her strengths. He or she will effectively maintain records, conduct and interpret achievement testing, and comply with Special Education law. QUALIFICATIONS: Possess a current and appropriate California teaching credential as required by Shasta Charter Academy and RSP Certificate and/ or Mild-Moderate Special Education Credential, preference for Autism certification and English teaching experience/ credential.

Negative TB Test. Strong computer skills necessary, including Google Office. Aeries experience preferred.

Comprehend charter school law and personalized learning philosophy. Preference for alternative education experience and math teaching experience. Experience writing IEP's and inputting student data into SEIS.

Preference for applicants with Reading Specialist certification JOB DUTIES: Important job duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Evaluate students' prior educational achievement and basic skills.

Keep students and families apprised of student progress in a manner designed to facilitate student motivation and self-responsibility. Facilitate student learning through regularly scheduled face-to-face meetings with student and family, meeting with each student at least once every 20 school days. Monitor student achievement through multiple assessment methods.

Maintain awareness and understanding of learning methods and curricula available. Develop and maintain relationships with special education support services received through SUHSD and elsewhere. Work under minimal supervision with confidence and discretion and communicate effectively with all levels of staff and the public with tactfulness, patience, dignity, and courtesy.

Maintain extemporaneous attendance record paperwork as required by California Department of Education Code. Assess and document student progress and maintain records for all student caseloads within required 20 days as per SCA Board policy. Assign grades for student work as teacher of record.

Utilize assessment systems (e.g., CAASPP and NWEA MAP testing results) in planning student goals and objectives with the student and his/her family. Communicate regularly with student and his/her family through telephone calls, email, letter, as well as with Student Attendance Work Record as the primary liaison and source of information between Shasta Charter Academy and the families. Collaborate with all staff and administrators to provide the best possible learning objectives and learning situations for all students.

Attend scheduled staff meetings. Meet deadlines in compliance with Special Education law, master agreements, attendance, grades, testing, and other deadlines as necessary for Shasta Secondary Home School. Assist with assessments such as CAASPP, NWEA MAP, and PE.

Assist with SCA school committees including but not limited to Leadership Committee, WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) committees, Emergency Protocol committee, at-risk student application review committee, etc. Attend school activities such as but not limited to: Back To School night, Campus club activities, term as staff Advisory Board member, School-wide field trips (as opposed to class field trips). Facilitators are required to participate in at least 2 such activities per year.

Work under minimal supervision with confidence and discretion and communicate effectively with all levels of staff and the public with tactfulness, patience, dignity, and courtesy. Teach on-site RSP English classes. SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong interpersonal skills. Broad content and subject matter knowledge. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational skills, including time management and follow-up. Ability to engage students to meet their highest potential academically, socially, and emotionally. Ability to inspire confidence and trust from parents and colleagues.

Ability to design dynamic, quality instructional lessons/projects. Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data, identify challenges, and suggest solutions. Ability to incorporate technology into student learning plans.

Computer literacy with Microsoft Office, Internet browsers, Aeries, and Microsoft Outlook and use of instructional technologies like iPads and "smart" boards. Write and deliver engaging lesson plans.

Communicate orally and in writing as well as on the telephone in a clear and effective manner. Organize time effectively to meet with families, complete paperwork within deadlines, create lesson plans and attend staff development and planning sessions as required.
